Guest guest
Speaking of Diet Coke... Elaine states that saccharin/aspartame may be consumed in diet drinks once a week when symptoms have subsided. So are Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi okay (I know that a lot of stuff has been added to our diet drinks since the time she wrote the book)? Also, in terms on using saccharine (Equal), when has everybody found that it is safe to introduce? I am just finishing my 6th week and don't want to jump into using it yet until I have some more information... Thanks Joanna > > > Good info. Thank you! Guest guest
BTVC pp. 77-78Diet soft drinks are permitted occasionally. Thosesweetened with aspartame or Nutri-Sweet may sometimescontain lactose and should be avoided, if possible. However,if this is the only type available, one per week is permitted.78 Chapter 10Diet soft drinks sweetened with saccharin need not be limitedto only one a week: 2-3 weekly would be permissible.DO NOT USE DIET SOFT DRINKS SWEETENED WITHANY OTHER SWEETENER-some can aggravate intestinalproblems to a great extent.Speaking of Diet Coke... Guest guest
Also, in terms on using saccharine (Equal), Equal is not saccharine. It's aspartame. Your mileage may vary, but aspartame makes me sicker than a dog -- and induces cravings for illegals like nobody's business. My choice is to avoid commercial sodas. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Diet Coke ingredients: The ingredients in Diet Coke (as formulated in the United States), listed in order of greatest to least amount: * Carbonated water * Caramel color * Aspartame * Phosphoric acid * Potassium benzoate (to protect taste) * Natural flavors * Citric acid * Caffeine Doesn't the natural flavors alone make it illegal? And maybe the caramel color? Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > > > Speaking of Diet Coke... My sister used to have seizures and they continued for years until I sent her enough articles mentioning seizures caused by aspartame and she finally quit drinking her diet pop and the seizures quit. Also, my nurse cousin tells me that some nurses in her part of the country have conducted a study for years which shows aspartame implicated in even worse things, like blindness. Even if it didn't make me sick (I had it in my colonoscopy prep and spent the next few days with heart attack symptoms, also a known side-effect) I figure I have enough problems to work on without risking any of these. Guest guest
Of course! I meant Sweet-N-Low. I was fantasizing about reliving the good old days when I could have a Diet Coke at the movies On top of everything else that is bad about it, the phosphoric acid (which depletes bone mass) should be enough to keep me away... I'll stick to my weak coffee! Thanks to everyone for having this discussion!!! -Joanna > > Equal is not saccharine. It's aspartame.
