Guest guest
Caeden used to always have diarreha with alimentum and all those funky formulas. When we put him on Neocate he was better and by the time we went to Neocate Jr. He was binding up and getting enema's. Now that we are on neocate one plus he is normal again. Neocate is easy for him to digest then the other formulas. Especially with his milk allergies.
Guest guest
Our insurance company is covering the Alimentum/Neocate due to it being an enteral feeding so we need not worry about the price now (we are past catastrophic limits so 100% paid for medical stuff for this year) and we have already done the paperwork for the Ill and Handicapped Waiver as well as the Brain Injury Waiver, just waitng for her to qualify at this point. I am usure which formula to go with. I was given a can of Neocate and Alimentum to try to see which I prefer. I just don't want to upset her tummy more by changing from one to another so frequently. Have you had issues when changing from one to another with diarrhea? The girl's pulmonologist thought it unlikely to be the Alimentum but rather an oncoming viral issue. (I REALLY didn't like the sounds of that!) Darla Re: diarrhea caused by alimentum/Neocate ?/Darla I do not know about alimentum, but Neocate is used alot to stop diarrheah. Grace was having 10-12 wattery, sometimes pussy, diarrheas before Neocate. Within a few days of starting it she starting having somewhat normal BM's. She did still have some problems but they were managable after the Neocate. I know the price is scary, but it really helped out Grace alot. If you do decide to go that route, check out the crippled childrens waiver or even WIC. I did not qualify financially for WIC but was still able to get it, due to medical necessity. (They even gave me the milk, juice and cereal for the rest of my family.) You will need a letter from your doctor to get the Neocate from WIC, but I am sure you will have no problems on that due to her issues. They were really helpfull in a time of need, and even was able to find a place to get her the formula that day. Best wishes. Please contact mito-owner with any problems or questions. Guest guest
Grace never tried anything other than the Neocate. She was totally breastfeed when she started having her problems, and her GI said she was deteriorating too fast to try anything other than "the best". We were very worried because it was told to us that if Neocate did not work, there was nothing else. As far as her switching to Neocate from breastmilk it went extremely well, she was starting to improve in a matter of days. I guess the only con's of the Neocate verses the Alimentum is availibility. You can usually find the Alimentum in a drug store in a desperate situation, but I never saw Neocate on the shelf (it is not allowed to be sold over the counter in my state, but not prescription.) This leads you to be dependant on a medical supplier wich sometimes do miss deliveries, or a day late. Towards the end we were running out before the next shipment came, so it was a hassle trying to get ahold of it. So I would suggest telling them you need at least an extra can or two in case. Also make sure you remember that with normal formula you use one scoop every two ounces and with Neocate it is one scoop an ounce, therefore you need to double the amount of cans that you would use of something else. One more thing you are not supposed to pre mix Neocate, it breaks down too fast so you can only make the feeds as you need them. Best wishes, hope all goes well.
