Sally -

What good news about your consult. It sure is a step in the right direction. I hope its one step after the other, now - straight to the OR!

I'm sorry, but I don't understand why they want patients to lose 10% before surgery - I do understand about the abdominal compartment syndrome, but I don't think a blanket ten percent is doable for everyone. After all, if we could diet successfully, we wouldn't be in the doctor's office talking about (begging for) this drastic surgery.

Anyway - congratulations on your consult.

Regards,

Jacqui

I don't get that either. I was thinking maybe to see if you comply? I don't know about anyone else but if I could lose 10% and keep it off....I'd do it!

I didn't know about this either, what about if you

have a short time between the consult and the surgery?

For instance I was on WW for almost 6 months and lost

less than 20 lbs, they want me to loose it in less

than that? Do they have any ideas on how to do that?

I mean I am sure I could become bulemic (sp) and get

that accomplished but again, isnt that the point of

why I am doing this because I HAVENT had luck? I want

to get in SHAPE before my surgery, cardio, and

strength training so that my skin is more elastic, and

my heart and lungs are better off going in. I am also

going to stock up on all my vitimins and make sure I

am eating HEALTHY. But I WILL NOT kill myself or eat

a non balanced diet so that I can loose 20 lbs to go

in for WLS. That is absolutely rediculous. What is

this about? I havent heard this before...

You know, I have to agree with you also. Everyone I have talked to

regarding Dr. Scholten says he expects this, so that he knows we can

follow directions and change our lifestyle. But I have also known from

others, that he has cancelled the surgery because of someone not

loosing the weight. Believe me, I feel under so much pressure right

now regarding it. Even when they called me yesterday to tell me that

they were going forward, she said I had to loose weight. She thought

my BMI was lower than it actually was!!! I have been walking a mile a

day, weather permitting, stopped all my bad eating habits, especially

at work, and have only lost 4lbs in 3 wks. I am hoping that the work I

have been doing will convince him I am serious. I don't know what else

to do. He is the only one in my network who does the DS without a huge

($4,500) post op fee.

Thanks for the support. I only know that the doctor wants us to loose

the weight, I am sure for our own health, but also to see if we can

follow directions and change our life habits. That is what I am told

anyway. I hope I am successful. I know he has cancelled the surgery

for one woman because she couldn't loose the weight. It will be a long

process until surgery...A hungry one I am sure.!
