Guest guest
Hi!!!! Don't despair! We use it alot...more in the past than late;y, but it is SO harmless....it is just rectal Valium!!!! Many people take it for anxiety...it is a muscle relaxer. Our son is 5 but only weighs 36 lbs, and we have been giving it to him for 3-4 years now and then when needed....all it does is knock him out for the night. he used to take 5 mg but now he gets 10mg, because he grew our of the earlier dose. Does that help? Liz in Philly

Guest guest
We have had to use Diastat with Audrey once or twice. I know it is a scary thing but it really helped. If you are afraid, you might try using just half to begin with. Do you have a pulse oximeter so you can watch her sats, also I would suggest you keep her on O2. I will keep you and your daughter in my prayers. Hopefully you are not home alone with her. It you are, why don't you call a friend or family to come sit with you for a while. Sometimes just someone else just being there hleps. Prayers, Kathy, grandma to Audrey, 33 mos

Guest guest
Davone, we use the diastat for hailee and i just love it, it only makes her tired, but the siezures stop almost within minutes. I would rather have the side effects of the diastat than the side effect of her seizures not stopping. and hailee
Guest guest
Dear Davonne: We use Diastat for Ben's seizures when they don't stop by themselves or if he has more than one. The only side effect is sleepiness, although we have found that the seizure itself is more a determining factor of how long he will sleep after (postictal state) than the Diastat. Sometimes he's not that sleepy after the Diastat and othertimes he is, therefore the seizure caused the sleepiness more (with Ben anyway). I was afraid to use the Diastat in the beginning, too, but am now glad to have it! Cindy, mom to Seth (almost 13) and Ben (8) both with mito > has anyone ever used diastat? my daughter has mito complex 1 and 4, > she also has severely abnormal mri of brain. > she has had seizures all day today, she takes phenobarb, keppra, and > klonipin. her neuro gave us diastat last wed for prolonged seizure. i > called his service tonight, he's not on call, the other doc said go > ahead and give diastat. i'm scared to give it after reading the > warnings. she is 18mos old and 23lbs. i need some help from you gals. > please respond to me!! i just need to know what i should expect if i > decide to give it to her tonight. > thanks, > davonne
