But thanks for letting me know, I'll watch >and see. Does it ever go away? Hmmmm good question and I don't know the answer. I am thinking it doesn't but that is a fairly wild guess. For me (I like to put a positive spin on everything if at all possible) the good news about being sensitive to those items is that I don't really want them and that helps in weight loss. > How far post-op are you? She said I could chew the tablets. DEVROM ABSOLUTELY WORKS, for the poop smell that is, but I find that it doesn't do much for the gas stench. Also, it turns your poop almost black, so don't let that freak you out. No, I'm not some weirdo who likes to examine his poops. I'm a weirdo who just had major intestinal surgery, and I'm watching for blood in my stool. (; As for the gas issue, according to what I've read, almost any carbohydrate can cause us gas post-op, with the exception of white rice. (Don't ask me why, I don't make this stuff up, I just report it!) I haven't found anything that can contend with the stink of my gas, except avoiding all carbohydrates as much as possible. I'm an Italian boy, raised on pasta and bread, so this really hurts. WAAAAAH! But, as the saying goes, it ain't over 'til the fat guy gets thin... So, I just bought some activated charcoal tablets and I'm going to try them tomorrow. I'll let everyone know if they work or not. As for the tablet/capsule question... I take the capsules, but I've never even tried the chewables because I find that most chewable tablets make me sick to my stomach. I'm sure either one will work fine, so it'll just be your preference as to how to take them. Guest guest
Hi H. Thanks again for your responses. I'm going to go wheat free today and see if there's a difference tonight. Although last night I took Beano (two) with dinner and things were much better. My weight does not seem to be affected by the wheat and gluten , I almost wish it would. I am only one month post-op as of yesterday so I am definitely going to keep the positive attitude - things are still changing inside. And I'm thanking God that there are products to help meanwhile. Best wishes to you, Joann in Mobile Dr. Kim, 04-20-01 Unofficially - 37 lbs.
Guest guest
Hey Tom- I just found your answer to my question. Thank you, thank you, thank you - especially for the warning about the changing colors. I would have probably run to the ER if you hadn't mentioned that because my poops have been very pale in color. Dr. Kim said it's the bile ??? I guess I really missed something because I never read about the carbs doing this to us. Or maybe I just didn't want to " hear " it. I'm Italian also and could have pasta at every meal. At least now I know someone is suffering with me on that note. I will be anxiously awaiting your report on charcoal - with my fingers crossed. I had some charcoal in my hand the other day at GNC and put it back thinking I didn't know enough on the subject yet and didn't want to waste anymore money (I've got nasty protein bars and shakes coming out of my ears). I would like to mention though that I just had a good shake for breakfast: MYOPLEX (I think their biggest seller?) in Chocolate Cream. The man at GNC suggested I split the pack into two shakes (more for your money, too). So half a pack made with one cup milk, handful of ice, one splenda and it's 29 gms. protein altogether. Great way to start the day..... and without GAS! Good luck Joann in Mobile
Guest guest
Beano is made to help with the odors that can come as a result of undigested carbos in addition to other foods incl beans. Guest guest
-Tom, You must be one tough customer as far as the gas. Devrom helped me with that too. Took it mine industrial strength to dainty and light. Maybe you need to double your dose or something. Geeze, what a conversation, huh?
