Guest guest
Is there any pattern to the vomiting? -- like he starts vomiting every 10 days. We have a child in our group who has Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome. What kind of G-tube/J-tube feeds are you on. When my 3 year old starts vomiting I put him on a slow Pedialyte drip (I start at 30cc's and work my way to 45cc's an hour). The salt in the Pedialyte helps to settle his stomach. Don't forget to vent his stomach for gas if you can. After the Pedialyte my son's Metabolism doctor likes to switch him to Gaterade. This is much more effective for older kids (it gives them more of what they need). Always ask your doctor about a new system -- but this works for us. Again I don't give more than 45cc's an hour until he starts to feel better. A neat little trick to vent a child's stomach is to attach a sterile glove to the end of the g-tube -- make sure to hold the tube upright so food won't come spilling out of the stomach. Then you can watch how much gas is trying to escape. The last time my son had surgery the doc did this -- of course since he hadn't had anything to eat there was no food to get in the way. If my son hasn't thrown up in a while I might try gently rubbing his stomach to help gas escape or even rolling him on his side seems to help. Please don't lose faith. I personally know how difficult it is to have a sick child. (My son has even had 6 surgeries in 2 1/2 years.) It is my faith that keeps me strong. No matter what my son goes through I choose to " give it to God. " Worrying doesn't help. Does that mean I don't fall off the wagon occasionally -- of course I do. In fact, as I write this I am dealing with the possibility of Cancer in myself and will go to the doctor in just 3 hours to find out more. It SUCKS! But, if I didn't believe that God has a plan to turn everything BAD into GOOD I don't think I could face another problem. I have faced this one with tears and over-eating but today I am feeling stronger and am able to a degree to say " So What! -- this too shall pass. " Sue Ann Hospitalization due to vomiting and diarehea. We just got out of the hospital. has been having diahrea and vomiting for about 4 weeks. we had him in the clinic for iv fluids and iv meds for 6 or 7 hours and ended up in the er two days later. transfered to another hospital and then to another. We ended up in and white for 10 days. His blood pressure was extremely high and the diahrea and vomiting did not stop. He had test after test to no avail. We finally left after vomiting 28 oz. and no oral intake. We are at our " ropes end " They put in a " j " tube along with the g tube and he seemed to be doing fine.(after comming home.) Then after a week has started with the vomiting and diarhea again. We don't know what to do at this point. He has also had some pitting edema. In his eyes, hands, feet, and legs. His stomach is so swollen, and he is visibly uncomfortable. Sometimes I wish he wasn't so cognitively aware. is sick. He wonders if God can come here. I really do not know what to tell him. I am afraid of what he really wants to know. I do say he is all around us, but can he understand that? Sometimes I wonder myself... Debbi Please contact mito-owner with any problems or questions.
