Guest guest
Nothing wrong with that. Try it again and maybe plan for that taxi cab the few times? Work a little more distance in each time. > Funny you should mention that freakity freaking freak freak wall... Last night I attempted to walk home from work, which is about 1/2 mile or so. I got about 3/4 of the way before I had one of my cabs take me the rest of the way. I was really sweating like a.. well, you know. Guest guest
Oh I will. Guest guest
If you are already making it nearly 3/4 of the way home, my friend...you are going to be screaming very very soon!!! The body is an amazing thing, and can really manage to up endurance quickly. So, for example, if you forced yourself to go as far as you could for the next week or so...knowing that you can use the taxi (and why the heck not) if you need it for the tail end...just try to set little goals for yourself. Like, ok...this time, I'm going to try to make it to that house (which is about two houses farther than yesterday) before I get into the cab. The next day, try and go one house further...or to the lightpost...or to the stop sign. I'm sure your guys in the taxi would be perfectly happy and proud of you for doing this, and they'll trail behind you for a bit if you decide you can make it a bit further than you anticipated. Or, after you rest, and you call the taxi to come and get you...you can try to go a little bit further when you are waiting for them to arrive. I bet you, within a week...you'll be getting all the way home, without any help at all! And then, after you've done that for a couple of weeks or so...you can start to try walking to work as well (keep a couple of extra shirts and a towel and some soup at the office, so that in the beginning, when you are sweating up a storm, you can change once you get to the office.) Just think, Ron...you'll be walking a mile a day!! That will be such a great thing!! It sounds impossible right now, but trust me...it's not! And you'll be in a much better position cardiovascularly for your surgery...you'll be building more muscle so that your weight loss will go more quickly...and you'll be able to hack away at the wall standing between you and your goal. I'm proud of you. You keep this momentum going, my friend. You'll be there before you know it!!! Robynn P.S. ...is there some kind of "utilitarian" exercise that you can throw into your day? What about walking around the building during lunch (outside), so that you can work off some of the stress and frustration of your job? If you are worried about sweating, bring a tee shirt to wear during your lunchtime jaunts. You guys are both going to get there!!! That's my prediction!!! BBQ Man wrote: Oh I will. Guest guest
Dear Ron, You are singing my song. I work at a school and some days just walking from the car to my classroom is a kick in the butt! That's exactly why I need this surgery, my health will not hold out if I don't. Luckily we live a mile or less to so many places....Trader Joes, The Vitamin Shoppe, and like that, even Target. So when I do have surgery, I plan to really use my walking to my advantage! Right now Randy and I have taken to walking the automall right down the street....its pretty big and we are up to about a mile each night, but its flat ground no hills. also our mall is pretty small, but the inside perimeter is one mile, we do that too, when my feet say four letter words to the rest of my body, there are lots of seating areas! Congrats on the big walk....you'll make it!!!! (BTW, my feet are so bad that we did invest in Z-coil shoes....they are ugly as sin but I can walk in them!!!! If you need a good laugh, check them out...google Z-coil ....they are pretty darn comfortable)! Hugs from Palmdale! Sue (and Randy who went to the doctor and is down 30 pounds from his surgery date on August 2nd!!!!!!!! And not itching anymore!!!!!!)BBQ Man wrote: Oh I will. Guest guest
Ron, That's great, a couple other tips. If you get them, they can last up to four years! There are ways to replace worn insoles, heels and like that. Also, if your doc writes a script they can be tax deductable, or better yet covered. I wasn't so lucky!! $$$$$ for mine. But they really have been a true life saver!!!! Hugs! Sue in PalmdaleBBQ Man wrote: Sue, thanks for the tip on shoes. I'm going to check them out closer. Guest guest
yup Cathy! They do come in wide width. They are also fitted to you....after they try them on you they have you walk around and adjust the heels to fit your need....my hips were killing me tooo, after getting the shoes they stopped most of my pain..... the kids at school think I can jump over buildings in them!! lol!! they are pricey.....about $200.00 so save your pennies.
