Guest guest
I now see why people totally drop the list and just live life...it gets so tiresome at times...yet I truly do value many of you and will always be grateful for the support and knowledge I have gleened from many of you........... is right....the issue Deb had is much deeper than summarized....DO READ POSTS or e-mail deb....she will share her story....others will share theirs....TOM......Dr. K is really booked and probably couldn't get you in anyway....Dr. Rabkin has years of experience so you would probably be more comfortable there....I dont think I could ever let anyone but Dr. K operate on me !! There is alot to be said for drive, youth, current knowledge, and not missing a beat ! He is meticulous and very talented....that is why he is so booked these days...anyway....he also wants patients to make informed choices and not enter surgery lightly and pick a surgeon that is geographically desirable...who you have faith in ! He interviews his patients and wants them to interview him...sounds like you know what you want from a surgeon....Years....there are older surgeons out there ! Best of luck on your search ! Nan....I know people did support Deb here ...but not always..... those people who did not...who barbed her...tried to one up her or simply defend their doctor without respect for her experience only threw gasoline on a burning fire......Anyway...once again...for the last time I hope.....those who do not have picture perfect outcomes need us the most....we may not be all they need...but we are a key part of what they need. Guest guest
> TOM......Dr. K is really booked and probably > couldn't get you in anyway.... I really wouldn't need him to. I'm seven weeks post-op with Dr. Anthone, who is, IMHO, not simply the best DS surgeon out there, but a saint, (or at least he's as close to a saint as I'll ever meet). > sounds like you know what you want from a > surgeon....Years....there are older surgeons out there Not years, experience, knowledge, and skill. I wanted a surgeon who will be able (within the limits of being human) to save my life if I crashed on the operating table. I got that with Dr. Anthone who, besides his ten years of surgical practice, has also studied advanced trauma life support. I wanted a surgeon who distinguished himself during his training. I got that in Dr. Anthone who, at the end of his residency, was chosen as Chief Resident, and who then was awarded a two-year surgical research fellowship at s Hopkins University Medical School. I wanted a surgeon who truly studies his field. I got that in Dr. Anthone, who has published dozens of articles related to various aspects of digestion and obesity. (Incidentally, he has also twice been named Best Teacher at USC Medical School, once for his teaching in the classroom, and once for his teaching in the operating theater.) I wanted a surgeon who thinks for himself, rather than following popular trends. I got that in Dr. Anthone who, for example, only performs the open DS (rather than arthroscopic). No, it's not a lack of experience or skill. In fact, he TEACHES arthroscopic surgery at the University of Southern California med school. He will only perform the open DS because he wants to be able to run his fingers along the entire length of the patient's digestive tract to be sure there are no problems. I wanted a surgeon who constantly looks for ways to improve the outcomes of his patients. I got that in Dr. Anthone who, for example, now routinely recommends a panniculectomy prior to the DS (for patients with a large hanging belly) in order to improve post- operative mobility and decrease the chance that a patient will develop blood clots post-op. I wanted a surgeon who knows the DS operation in and out. I got that in Dr. Anthone. He was recruited to USC Medical School by Dr. DeMeester, who developed the Duodenal Switch procedure for patients with bile reflux gastritis. The Bilio-Pancreatic Diversion portion of the surgery was developed by Dr. Scoparino in Genoa, Italy. Dr. Hess, in Ohio, combined Dr. Scoparino's BPD with Dr. DeMeester's DS, to create the BPD/DS we all know and love. When Dr. Anthone first heard about the BPD/DS, he flew to Ohio to learn it at the feet of the Creator Himself, (i.e., Dr. Hess). I could go on, but I think you should get the point by now. Anyway, I'm not trying to put Dr. K down. From everything I've heard from his patients, I think he has the makings of a fine surgeon, some day. Who knows, after he proves himself for several more years, I might even recommend him to a friend. > Anyway...once again...for the last > time I hope.....those who do not have picture perfect > outcomes need us the most....we may not be all they > need...but we are a key part of what they need. AMEN! And, people whose opinions differ from the crowd, especially on vital issues such as how to choose a surgeon, need to be heard as well. But that's not a very popular view around here where, all too often, the mere fact of disagreement is taken as a personal affront. But I am being told right and left to shut up. If you all cannot tolerate any slight difference from your party line -- then don't post about Deb without the warning that no dissension can or will be tolerated and no responses are allowed. * & ^%$. The truth is known only to GOD, everything else is someone's opinion or interpretation of the facts. IF I get one more post telling me to shut up by the very people who are grousing about Deb's being censored, I will absolutely explode. Get a clue people! Nan E. Guest guest
Tom....I really think that you had some valuable things to say about expressing differences of opinions and personalizations....I think however...it is often how these opinions are said that makes all the difference, in the manner people respond and start personalizing....every action has a cause and effect....! One can say....the reason I have chosen Dr. Anthone...is due to the following factors that I value : (insert your stuff said in this regard). What I responded to was more of a discounting of Dr. Keshishian's attributes, as you wrote to . I have no intention of spending all night quoting everything...but that is what I responded to .... And from your response to me I just have one more opinion to state....... I do not think that Dr. Keshishian will be " an excellent surgeon someday " .....I know he is an excellent surgeon today !!! I also know that Rabkin/Jossart and Anthone are fine surgeons also....we are very lucky here in California. .........
