Guest guest
I began the into diet on Tuesday and have been feeling well (normal stools once per day) I've not had a stomach ache, but have had absolutely terrible gas (foul odor). I've never in my life eaten so many carrots and I'm wondering if it could be the carrots or if it is simply die off? Thoughts? Tai
Guest guest
Hi Tai, That kind of gas sounds to me like fermentation. Yes, carrots can cause this. How many are you eating and how is it prepped? Guest guest
Thanks Jodi, I am boiling them for 4 hours. I typically have been eating carrots with each meal during the day since starting the intro diet. So turkey burger and carrots for breakfast, soup and carrots with lunch, etc. Should I pull them out for a day or two and see if it helps? Guest guest
Tai, How many days have you been on intro again? So how many cups of carrots or stalks in total do you think you are eating? I have an inclination to think this is your problem causing fermentation. Yes, I would cut the carrots out a couple of days to see if it is the culprit. Then slowly reintro maybe only trying 1 for that whole day seeing how you do. Remember, moderation is key.. now that is really rough on intro but you just had a couple of days of it.. Load up on the proteins.. Maybe think of intro'ing zucchini as your next step? I loved pureed zucchini with ghee and sea salt! YUM! Guest guest
I start the intro on Tuesday. I think I'm probably eating four cups of carrots each day in addition to the soup and proteins (plenty more carrots than I've ever eaten before). I did try squash yesterday and so far so good, but I don't plan to have any today and we'll see how I'm doing tomorrow. If squash is added without a problem I planned to try zucchini later this week. I've never had problems with either of these vegetables in the past, but still want to add them in slowly just to be safe. I think I'll avoid carrots for a few days and then perhaps try them slowly like you said. Thanks for your help with this! Guest guest
Sure Tai.. It really helps sound-boarding this stuff.. I got loads of help in my early days and continue to get awesome support.. So you've been on intro long enough and I think it is splendid that you will move slowly.. that is what I had to learn the very hard way over and over again!! That is an awful lot of carrots to eat.. but Intro is intro and is complicated and rough as it is.. Happy about the squash too! Remember our tolerances and sensitivities can change on the SCD as our system recalibrates and dysbiosis gets adjusted.. So what may have agreed in the past may not now.. sometimes what never agreed in the past may work now.. sometimes it stays the same.. It's all highly individual.. Very interesting seeing how the body works. Keep up the good work! Jodi
