Guest guest
There is a chance of ketosis. Will he eat veggies or fruits of any kind? If not maybe you could sneak them in some how like in his muffins, pancakes etc. andrea > > Just wondering if there is a chance of ketosis. Just because my son (5) eats so much meat and no sugar. Guest guest
I forgot to add. You can buy ketosis strips at the pharmacy. They will tell you if there are ketones in your son's urine. andrea > > > > Just wondering if there is a chance of ketosis. Just because my > son (5) eats so much meat and no sugar. Guest guest
IS he getting vegetables and fruit? SCD is not intended to be a low carb diet. If he's getting fruit and vegetables I wouldn't be concerned. Becky mom to Noah (6, HFA) and (3, NT) SCD 6 weeks > Just wondering if there is a chance of ketosis. Guest guest
Anyone have any thoughts on ketosis? A friend of mine said I should be concerned about this.
Guest guest
Why does your friend think you need to be concerned with this? Is there a specific reason? SCD is a Specific Carbohydrate diet not a " LOW " Carbohydrate diet. Some people limit carb intake within the SCD but there plenty of carbs even with that. Also ketosis is highly individual.. Eat squash. Jodi > > Anyone have any thoughts on ketosis? A friend of mine said I should be concerned about this. > >
Guest guest
Ketosis occurs then one eats zero carbs, like the Atkins diet. SCD only eliminates specific carbs. You can have all kinds of fruits and honey on SCD. If you include carbs on SCD, you will not have ketosis. PJ > > Anyone have any thoughts on ketosis? Guest guest
Thanks, I was just curious. I am very open about what I'm going through with my co workers and they all have an opinion. Some are doubters and some encourage. I ignore most of them as they have no idea what it's like living with crohn's. > > > > Anyone have any thoughts on ketosis? Guest guest
I limited the amount of carbs for some time and I was on " ketosis " . My doc quickly detected the smell of my breath and instructed me to increase the amount of carbs. She also told me to buy some acetone test papers in the farmacy. One drop of urine on the paper will tell you if ketosis occurs. > > > > > > Anyone have any thoughts on ketosis? A friend of mine said I should be concerned about this. SCD is the SPECIFIC Carbohydrate Diet, not the Zero Carbohydrate Diet or the Low Carbohydrate Diet. Worrying about ketosis is a common mistake when people hear you have eliminated grains and potatoes, because they do not understand that we get carbs fron fruit, vegetables, honey, and properly prepared yogurt. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
I am in the middle of reading " Life Without Bread " , which is quite interesting and more scientific on the subject of carbs than many books. He talks about ketosis not being the big bugaboo we have been hearing about, anyhow, that the high carb diet is historically the unnatural one anyhow. I forget quite why some ketosis may not be all that bad, wasn't that interested in that part anyhow. Anyone have any thoughts on ketosis? A friend of mine said I should be concerned about this. Guest guest
Ketosis is associated with weight loss, and some people don't want to lose weight. I like how the book allows some carbs. It certainly was interesting to read- a real eye opener for me. Guest guest
It's got kind of a fruity, alcohol kind of smell. I was in ketosis while pregnant and the doctors were really concerned. This was pre-SCD when I was horribly ill and couldn't keep anything in me. HTH, > > > > > > > > > > Anyone have any thoughts on ketosis?
