Guest guest
I am looking into the possibility of dropping scd yogurt from my diet so I can deal with a candida/yeast issue (apparently when you remove the lactose it becomes galactose which is a form of sugar). I was wondering if people who don't/can't eat the yogurt take any supplements in its place. I currently take acidophilus and s.boulardii but wondered if I would need to take others to replace what I am missing from the yogurt. (of course if I have got it wrong about the galactose and therefore wouldn't need to drop the yogurt than please let me know as this would solve a lot of problems!) Thanks, Mike
Guest guest
It is possible to eat scd without yogurt. I avoid dairy because of food intolerances. And I am not taking any probiotic. I will probably add them in a later stage. The guidelines provided in pecanbread recommend to wait for some time before introducing yogurt, and then introduce it very slowly. It is difficult to give advice because we are all so different ... I did the CST at GPL and it showed lack of lactobacili. Guest guest
Hello Mike - I might have this wrong, but isn't galactose a monosaccharide, and therefore OK? > > I am looking into the possibility of dropping scd yogurt from my diet so I can deal with a candida/yeast issue (apparently when you remove the lactose it becomes galactose which is a form of sugar). > > I was wondering if people who don't/can't eat the yogurt take any supplements in its place. Guest guest
Also, if you drip the yogurt, most of the galactose goes away. Guest guest
Check out what Elaine says about yogurt here: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/beginners_guide/yoghurt/yoghurt.htm I like to drip my yogurt, thereby removing the galactose with the liquid. I did not tolerate the galactose at the very beginning of SCD. Now I can tolerate it, but still prefer the thicker, creamier yogurt when dripped (and it’s less tart tasting when dripped). Guest guest
Pecanbread recommends waiting 3 months to start goat yogurt for ASD kids. People with gut issues can start eating cow yogurt on day 1 if they so desire. If you're not taking any probiotics, won't that let the yeast start overgrowing? Something has to take the place of the bacteria that are dying. Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > > It is possible to eat scd without yogurt. I avoid dairy because of food intolerances. Galactose is a monosaccharide, and therefore legal. It is, however, metabolized by the liver, and for those of us with healing guts, too much galactose can cause issues. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
