HAILEE has problems at night with her o2, she also sleeps on a pulse o2 sensor. She use to run 99-100, now she runs 90-93 with out o2, when she is sick she drops into the low 80s and has to go on o2. She also has apnea spells, and heat makes breathing hard for her along with carbon monoxide problems with her breathing..

I too worry, her sats during the day are now starting to drop also.

Joey who is 5 years old has trouble with Stridor a night time. He

was dx. with Laryngamalacia when he was a infant. It was suppose to

go away, yet his just gets worse every Spring/Summer. The heat

really makes his stridor worse. Tonight he is sleeping with a pulse

ox. machine, to monitor his oxygen while he is asleep. He is suppose

to be sleeping with a C-Pap, yet he hates it. And rips it off his

face several times a night, we get no use out of it.

If the results are bad tonight, I am not sure of the next move. I am

kind of scared to find out. We sure do not want a trache. But I

guess it could end up happen.

Do any of you have trouble with increase oxygen at night? Thank for

your help.

Tamara,

I am an adult but I thought I'd answer this for you. I now have

supplemental oxygen along with my CPAP during the night.

Both my girls have problems with sleep and oxygen/breathing areas. Asenath usually runs 98-100% with her pulse-ox but then drops when ill and has had apnea, irregular breath patterns, irregular heart rate for the past two years. She goes through times where she will wear the oxygen and times where she won't. Just last night she needed it but refused to wear it. Very frustrating indeed!!! Zipporrah runs between 94-97% on her pulse-ox but very frequently drops into the 80's and upper 70's. We use oxygen on her at times but she hates it! We are still trying to figure out what all is causing it. She too has apnea and irregular breathing and heart rates Disautonomia (autonomic system failure) issues are thought to be the cause of some of these issues and unfortunately there isn't much that can treat it. Last night both girls were struggling. Zipporrah kept stopping breathing, and Asenath had stridor/asthma issues. The pulmonologist hopes that temporary increasing Asenath's steroids will help her and I do to because he said if this didn't help, he might need to consider a breathing tube to help her. The problem is every time she walks around or plays, she starts to cough and then gag. He isn't sure if it is asthma yet or not! Hope this helps you some. Darla,

I was just reading a few posts and I wanted to jump in and tell you how we get Audrey to keep her O2 on. We have taken a large adult face mask and cut the top of it off, we then put the elastic around Audrey's chest under her arms. It is just blow by but it is enough to bring her sats up. She wears hers off and on through out the day as we have discovered it seems to give her a boost in energy. She doesn't have to work so hard for her O2 I guess. The respiratory folks didn't think she would get enough O2 this way, but it brings her sats up from the 80's to the low 90's, and that is good for her. She just will not keep the regular mask or the cannula on. For a child that has really no purposeful movement, she can sure get that mask and cannula off in a hurry. The doctor said her sats would be better if the O2 were delivered a different way but it is not worth it, with her fighting it so bad her sats go down even more.

I also read ahead and I want to tell you we are praying for Luke. I know this is a very big worry for you as I also see Amie with it with her son, Alec. He has not gained any weight in a year and he just looks pale all the time. Her Ped says to leave him alone but the neurologist says to get a muscle biopsy. He is 6 1/2 and Amie just doesn't know what to do. His father, Amie's ex, won't even talk about the possibilities of something being wrong. Please know that you are all in my prayers. I hope you get a chance to have some "just you" time once in a while. It is very important to keep you healthy as well.

Take care Darla, and know that there are many people thinking and praying for all of you.

Kathy, grandma to Audrey, 33mos
