Guest guest
When I was talking to Mayo g-tube surgeon and my ped. today they mentioned that it is not good to use the burp tube too frequently because it could cause excessive loss of sodium. Has anyone heard this? They want me to get a medicine to lesson Zipporrah's phlegm so she doesn't have the need to be "siphoned" so frequently. (She fills up her tummy after 2-3 oz. of formula due to excessive phlegm.) What is the result of losing too much sodium, also? thanks for any response. Guest guest
Darla, I think they worry that when tummy juices (i.e. the gastric secretions and everything else in the tummy) are taken out and not put back in (as you do when you check for residuals), you can use important electrolytes. Just as you do when you throw up repeatedly. Does that help? I don't know what to do about phlegm. Hope you get something that works soon.
