I have been SCD for 8 years. I had a colonoscopy last January, and the result was absolutely clear -- no sign of disease process, no sign of diverticulitis. Come back in ten years. This suggests that SCD was a major factor in breaking the generational cycle of gut disorders. Moreover, before my cancer surgery, I was told, "It not if you have wound separation, it's how much. It's not if you have infection, it's how much. It's not if you have (long list of things), it's how much...." Upshot of it was -- I had no infection. No wound separation. None of the other dire things which are apparently "normal" for my type of surgery. In fact, one of the surgeons had a different set of interns in with him every time I saw him, so they could see how an incision of my type OUGHT to heal, instead of the way it usually heals.I love hearing this! =D Peace =)Alyssa 15 yoUC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)No meds!

I love experiencing it! (Well, I could have done without needing surgery,

but since I did need it, I'm glad it went as well as it did!)

My MIL was a tiny lady who never was very interested in food at all. She

always said if she could just take a pill at each meal and be done with

it, that's what she would like to do. I thought she was nuts at the

time (decades ago) but I admit that after acquiring the IBS etc, I've

thought many times about the pill idea. It would be so easy!

> I wish I didn't have to eat to live.. It would be such an easier > life. LOL.

Lol I have thought this so many times =)

Peace =)

Don't you subtract the fiber from the total carbs to get the " real " number of

grams? That would probably make your carb count look a lot less scary!

any medical issues, they suggest starting with 9 units and then gradually going

down instead of a drastic restriction.

of fiber.

I don't know about that on fit day. Actually, I got a portion wrong and that

brought me back to a reasonable range when I corrected it. Thanks,

I read that you need 300g of carbs a day...is this correct?I don't know about that on fit day. Actually, I got a portion wrong and that brought me back to a reasonable range when I corrected it. Where in the world did you find that?

300 grams of carbs would mean 1200 calories from carbs alone. I

can't imagine eating that many carbs, myself.

If you look at the labels on food, for example raisins say that they contain 33g of carbs which converts to 11% of your DV. This would mean that you need 300g to reach about 100%. Well, the DV of carbs is written by the folks who promulgate the food

pyramid... which just happens to be supported by Big Agriculture who

supports eating lots of grains and starches and sugar.

I rarely eat more than 50-70 grams of carbs a day.

Marilyn,I read an article that was written by a woman who helped develop the original food pyramid. She was floored when it was actually published. She helped design one where the majority of the food, or the bottom layer, was to be vegetables and fruits with more emphasis on the veggies. Grains were actually lumped in with sugar and at the very top to be used occasionally/sparingly! You bet big Agra had a hand in it just like the dairy industry. I have heard from friends and read that negroes/blacks/Africans (insert your favorite PC term here) have a lactose problem and feel that they are being pressured to consume milk for the 'recommended' calcium intake! Too bad the doctors aren't going to tell them about almonds....Amelia
