Guest guest
Hi all, Has anyone out there post-op used Dr. Pomp or Inabnet in NY? Like to share any impressions? I'm still searching for a surgeon, and am concerned about the research indicating the two-stage surgery is better for people with high BMIs. With thanks, Robyn
Guest guest
Hi Robin- I used Dr. Herron and Dr. Pomp assisted. They are a wonderful team and I was very happy with the surgery. I am completing my 6th month and I am down 81 pounds. I started with a BMI of 57 and now it is 42. I had the complete surfery at one time and I had it lap.. If you have any questions feel free to write. Ellen(Pam
Guest guest
Dear Robyn, I am one of the fortunate ones that Dr. Gagner recommended having the surgery in two steps. I had the sleeve gastrectomy on Dec. 5 and on June 26 part two is going to be done. I have lost a little more than 80 pounds and really feel that this was the right way for me. I now realize what it means to be full... something I never ever knew. Please feel free to write and if there is anything I can do, don't hesitate to ask. Guest guest
Hi Robyn- I am scheduled for an open DS with Dr. Pomp for June 20th. I met him in April at my consultation. He is a very knowledgable and witty man. I felt that I could ask him anything as I became very comfortable with him. We discussed my high BMI and he did offer me the choice of a full DS done open or a 2 part laparoscopic procedure. These options were bourne out of an extensive Mount Sinai study of DS patients with BMI's over 60. They found that the mortality and complication rate rose significantly in the lap surgeries done on these patients - but not with the open procedures. (Lap surgeries take more time under the anesthesia) It was determined that the relative simplicity and shorter duration of the lap sleeve gastrectomy (the first of the two parts)did not pose this threat. The patient then goes on to lose a major amount of their weight (about 100lbs. in about 6-8 months) and then returns for the lap " switch " - the more intricate part of the surgery. When he layed this all out for me, I didn't know what to do. Ultimately though, the deciding factors were 1)The less times being anesthetised, the better. 2)One surgery means one recovery period. I chose the summer because of the drastically less hectic schedule around my household. I originally wanted my surgery in February and see now how rough it would have been with everybody's schedules. Having to have part 2 done in about 6 months would have left me right in the middle of the busiest, craziest part of the year. But this was my unique personal choice... So good luck with your decision - feel free to e-mail me with any other questions that may crop up. from Philly BMI 63, age 39 Open DS w/ Dr. Pomp 6-20-01 Aetna USHC - HMO (doc thinks they will pay!) Guest guest
Hi : I would love to come and meet you while you are in the hospital, if you agree of course. I have my consult with Dr. Gagner on June 20, but will be staying in NY until my DS Revision on June 25(hopefully). I could come on Sunday June 24 if you are still there. Let me know. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for the reply. Since I posted, I've heard from several surgeons via email that in my case -- a revision of a VBG to DS -- they'd have to do me open, and all recommend doing an all in one open procedure. Now, to decide on the surgeon! All the best with your surgery! Robyn Re: Drs. Pomp and Inabnet > Hi Robyn- > > I am scheduled for an open DS with Dr. Pomp for June 20th.
