Guest guest
So you know how I've struggled a lot with anemia, and having to take iron pills, right? Wellll... I just got my bloodwork back, and I'm NOT anemic!!!!!! Yay!!! And here's why this is amazing: 1) I haven't eaten red meat, liver, oysters, or anything like that that people recommend for iron in months 2) I haven't taken an iron pill for months 3) AND at the time of the blood work, I was actually bleeding because of the flu! And after all that, I was still not anemic, even though at my previous blood test, I WAS anemic even though I WAS taking iron, eating red meat, and NOT bleeding. The only thing I've been doing differently (other than NOT taking all that stuff) is drinking green smoothies every day. And I know you guys are probably getting really annoyed at me for always mentioning them, but now I actually have PROOF of them working for me! There isn't really another possible explanation for me not being anemic, so I know they did it, and I think that's amazing. Peace =) Alyssa 15 yo UC April 2008, dx Sept 2008 SCD June 2009 (restarted) No meds!
Guest guest
Congrats! Since iron pills are so hard on the system, they may have been doing you more harm then good. Guest guest
Congratulations! Another part of the explanation might be that you are healing now, so that your body is actually able to get what it needs from your normal food. The best way of healing is always to enable the body to heal itself! The best way of healing is always to enable the body to heal itself! That's what I thought too, but at the time I got my bloodwork done I had the flu and had been flared up and bleeding for a few days, worse than I have in months. So I thought that was ironic. But maybe enough healing had taken place before then...? Who knows, I'm just happy I'm not anemic =) Peace =)Alyssa 15 yoUC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)No meds!

Guest guest
Hi Alyssa, I don't want to 'burst your bubble' just want you to be aware. During an acute infection such as a flu, cold, or infection, your iron levels in the blood may be increased. This doesn't mean your iron status is better, just that your body is responding to an infection and iron is shifting places. A blood test only picks up iron in the blood, not your overall body stores. If you find yourself feeling symptoms of anemia it might be good to have an iron blood test when you are not acutely sick. However, if you're feeling good, then don't worry at all! Kat > > So you know how I've struggled a lot with anemia, and having to take > iron pills, right? Guest guest
Congratulations! Do you think the accupunturist (sp?) helped with choosing the right foods?Yess!!! It's so hard for me to try and choose the right foods for my particular body. With all the information out there, you will find SOMETHING bad about every single food, and why you shouldn't eat it if you have IBD. He especially helped with deciding to drink green smoothies, since most people on here (and most normal doctors) would say 'don't', but my inner gut and a bunch of other info I gathered told me 'do.' Getting him to test them, and seeing how much my colon liked them, was the final push I needed, and now the lack of anemia is proof =) I'm still totally in awe with the results you had. Can you repost the green smoothie or send a link?So am I =) If you can, I'd highly recommend reading "Green for Life" by Boutenko, the creator of green smoothies. It's not long at all, and she's a very good writer. If not, you can look up 'green smoothies' on google or youtube and find a bunch of stuff. But in general, it's whatever fruit you want, plus whatever greens you want, all blended up. I add yogurt and VCO because I feel like I tolerate it better with the probiotics (and my doc is strongly encouraging me to eat more calories), but usually it would just be fruit and greens. Guest guest
Hi Alyssa, No they are 2 different tests. You might not be anemic anymore but you could still have low iron. Forget about looking at your iron level. You need to keep a eye on your Ferritin level which is your iron stores. Everyone's ferritin should be a round 90. We need Iron for our thyroids to work properly. For example you could have perfect iron levels and yet your ferritin is 15. It would not take long before the heomoglobin starts to drop and you are back to having anemia. Sky To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Wed, 18 November, 2009 11:54:26 AMSubject: Re: Re: I have amazing news!
