Guest guest
Did anyone else have it grow back > after having it removed and what did u do? Our had terrible problems with granulation tissue. The docs insisted that granulation tissue has no nerve endings and should not hurt. Well, I would do the silver nitrate while she was asleep and she would wake up screaming. So, the docs wrote a script for Emla cream and I put that on her stoma and then, after she was asleep, used the silver nitrate. NO PAIN!!!!! You can still get the Emla from your doctor or you can use something called LMX. It is supposed to be over the counter but most insurance companies will pay for it because it is quite a bit cheaper than the Emla. LMX works in about 15 minutes vs Emla's 30-45 min. had it over and over and over until we found the source of the irritation. For her, we switched buttons (from Mic-Key to Mini) and used a tubular bandage around her tummy while she was getting tube feeds (kept stuff still and irritation-free). Steroid ointment can actually make the problem worse because steroids cause a thinning of the skin and scarring. Granulation tissues is an attempt by the body to heal itself and fill in the stoma. Oh, we also used Techni-Care surgical scrub on the site to kill any bacteria. It is a surgical scrub that is safe for use on mucus membranes.
