Guest guest
Debbie, Yes, the Friendship Farmer cheese (DCCC) is kosher. According to people on this list, this is the only brand that is legal for SCD. Can anyone please tell me why; I can't remember. And, were you saying you are not sure what DCCC is, or what kosher is? Can we make our own DCCC? My husband goes through so much yogurt each day that we don't have enough left over for dripping. And we bought the yogourmet too. BTW, my husband is going to try to get off his meds. He is on 30 mg prednisone/day and 4 asacol. Is that a little or a lot? BTW again, this all started as a result of his doing an intense cleanse for his liver. He never had problems like this before, so he is believing with this diet, he will be off his meds, and back to normal. BUT, we will not be eating like we did before. Once we finish some of the illegals in the freezer and pantry (we don't want to waste what we have in there), we will be changing our diet. Sugar should be looked at like it's a poison. BTW again, our children and I all got a mild respiratory flu about 2 weeks ago and he did not. We were wondering if the diet may have had something to do with it. Guest guest
I found the DCCC at a couple of stores in South Houston. I have been eating from the beginning, I just didn't realized it was considered kosher. There is a recipe for DCCC--if I can find the link, I will post it. Most of us or a lot of us have two yogurt makers. Otherwise, we'd constantly be making yogurt ;-). I'm not sure how much Asacol is but the latest gastro doc prescribed that for me instead of Pentasa. I haven't checked into very much because I've had CD severe in the stomach so I think once he looks over my records, he'll switch me back. I'm not sure yet. I stayed on 30mg of prednisone for the first 4-5 years after being dx'd. I would taper down and go into a flare. I was prednisone dependent. When I started the diet, I did the 'ever so slow' taper that took months so I could stop taking it without the flares. During this time I kept a pot of chicken soup in the refrigerator and yogurt with DCCC around all the time. That was my go to instead of any snacks. I alway had trouble sleeping, had nightmares and sweats and all kinds of hair loss (not sure what caused that--meds, anemia, malnutrition) but I lost a ton of hair. It's coming back now--brown lol. You just have to take things very slowly. I ate DCCC too much in place of other foods. Some do that with peanut butter or pork rinds. I just thawed a loaf but I'll cut it up, refreeze and monitor how much I eat. Good luck, just remember (and I'm listening telling myself with non-CD issues) to just take it easy and go slow. Guest guest
RE getting off any meds, I think slow is the only way to go. I mean really really slow. When I have been able to decrease my hyrocortisone (for adrenal insufficiency or failure, not for the gut) I decrease almost molecule by molecule. HC is only about 1/4 as strong as prednisone, but I decrease 1.25 mg a MONTH, just shaving off a teensy bit more each day. My wise just-retired nurse friend says the best way to make changes is so slowly the body doesn't realize what you are doing. This works best for me.
