What would you call it then?>>>>> It' called 'moderation'. When someone slanders another person or surgeon it will not be tolerated on the list. Deb has posted numerous times in the past and these posts were not removed, censored, previewed in any way. She is NOT banned from the list. Her name does NOT appear in the banned list anywhere! I do not think she has been censored, either but that is a large difference of opinion. If she were moderated simply because she said she hated her surgeon, she thought her surgeon was incompetent, etc. - then why hadn't this occured eons ago? Why did this issue only arise after she posted about her new e-group 'drrenisabutcher'? Can you explain that by the theory that she is bein censored for having a 'difference of opinion' with anyone in the group? > She further went on to say > that in the past, Deb has taken time-out's from posting for awhile > and likely, she is doing that again. Not the case!>>>>>> I beg to differ. There have been posts made by Deb saying she wanted to 'leave the group' because some members disagreed with her (sometimes rather strongly). I must note that this was NOT an issue between 'moderator' and Deb, but fellow list members and Deb. There were long periods where she has not posted and other times when she has come back and posted. Look in the archives - it is all there. As to the reasons why she has posted in 'cycles', I do not know. Perhaps she went on vacation? perhaps she didn't feel like reading the list? It is not like she consistently posted on a frequent basis. There have been periods where she didn't post at all and then other times when she was quite active responding to others' questions, discussing her surgery experience, etc. > > > Just because someone chooses to stay silent for awhile does > not mean they've been vanquished. You're right; just censored. When ones posts need to be approved by the moderator that is being censored, plain and simple.>>>>>> Once again, this involves a legal issue here, not Deb's sole right to express herself. > However, I'm curious why > those signing the petition believe that to be the case? See above.>>>>> I strongly disagree. I think many of those signing the petition believe that Deb has been 'banned' or 'censored' merely for expressing her opinions and do not realize that, to the list owner and others on the list, slandering a surgeon is not to be taken lightly, especially since she is in a legal battle with said surgeon. They may not have looked in the archives and seen the numerous posts Deb has made in the past and seen that she has pretty much always said what was on her mind --- Some people applauded her and others critisized her for it. But, these messages were not in any way previewed, deleted, omitted, etc. > Did our > co-moderator make a mistake or something? Can't and won't speak for the moderator.>>>>> That is good -- Now I wish that people would stop talking for Deb as well. This has happened in the past where everyone was writing on her behalf but she did not respond herself. I do not know the reason she did not respond and let everyone else speak for her (this was way before she posted about the drrenisabutcher group). I highly suggest everyone do their research on the issue. If, after reading the previous posts, disscussions, etc. and read what Deb and others have said, one still feels that Deb has been unfairly 'censored', so be it. But, really --- look at the lengthly archives before declaring this a black and white issue. all the best, co-moderator, Duodenalswitch list lap ds with gallbladder removal Dr. Gagner/Dr. Quinn assisting/Mt. (to those of you who wanted to sign prior to posting, sorry if i left you off! i lost track of some names and didn't want to post them without confirmation. please add yourself): We, the undersigned, request that deb (ciar1) be removed from censored status and reinstated as a regular member of the group. One of the primary purposes of this group is to support it's members through good times and bad. If we can't count on one another during the most difficult of times then that severely diminishes the group's value. We need to be strong enough in ourselves to listen to our brothers and sisters when they reach out in pain without losing ourselves in it. The other primary purpose of this group is education. New members deserve to hear about both positive and negative outcomes of surgery and variety in our membership provides this balance. Deb has not only contributed her experience, but has contributed numerous unbiased educational posts that have been of great value to all of us. We need to continue to allow her to benefit us, as much as we need to continue to bring what each of us has to offer. Differences of opinion are not reason enough to shut out our members. We are a support group, and deb needs and deserves our support. She is a valuable member of this group and has given a lot to many members here. We want her back. 1) erika, eontheedge@... 2) Janice, jejjejjej@... 3) Jill in NY, JKHCC@... 4) Anita, rowanceleste@... 5) Liane French, lilifrench@... 6) rich, quaa714@... 7) joy, joyfrost@... 8) loriann, llist@... 9) , leigh6x@... 10) stella, serenn@... 11) Nick in Sage, sage@i... 12) Dayle, hopingsoul@... 13) , definitemaybe@... 14) Eva, egrudin@... 15) Kathy, KStefanov@... 16) Betsy, bjahncke@... 17) denise, nsyncmom2001@... 18) Montgomery, marym@... 19) 20) 21)
