Guest guest
Hi! We have 4 children, our oldest, Noah, has complex 1 and was diagnosed by Dr. Shoffner in 2002. We are still awaiting the genetics sequencing, but they suspect our youngest son, Adam, might also have it. He is developing slowly, but recently has been making great strides. Physically he is an absolutely beautiful child and right now is only delayed about 25% in his expressive language. His lab work from the beginning has been worse than Noah's, but other than being anemic, his labs have been improving. Recently I have noticed that his teeth are changing color and turning almost transparent - bluish. I haven't yet taken him to the dentist. I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. Also, for those of you seeing Shoffner, how long have you waited for the sequencing results? It will be three years in December! Thanks so much! Watkins Ps. Is there anyone else out there with two children with complex 1 who have developed differently?
Guest guest
My daughter Grace also has translucent looking teeth. They are also very brittle, the smallest bump will chip a tooth. Sorry I cannot explain it, though. I am still very concerned because I was a dental assistant for many years, before having to quit to stay home with Gracie, and have never seen this on anyone else. I have taken her to a pedodontist, and they were not concerned. He told me her chips would smooth off on there own (they usually do), but hers are still very rough, and the last bump was well over 6 months ago. My first thought was an enamel deficiency, but she does not seem to get decay and it is very hard to brush her teeth (strong gag reflux). I have heard that metabolic disorders can discolor teeth and cause enamel problems. I would definitely take him to a dentist to have this checked out, though. If he does have an enamel deficiency, it can lead to a lot of problems. Best wishes.
