Guest guest
EFA-Plus is a flaxseed based essential fatty acid source containing 57% Omega-3 fatty acids and 16% Omega-6. It also supplies 28% dietary fiber and 20% protein which makes it an excellent source of amino acids. The special flaxseed used in EFA-Plus has been specially processed for purity and long term stability. http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/products/articles/EFA/default.htm This is where we get our Flax seed which is called EFA-Plus from Kirmans. This link has a really good artical and lots of information on why its good and what the benefits are. I put it on my sons sandwich and he cant tell the difference. I also add it to most everything I cook. Hope this helps. Have a great day! Guest guest
> > O.K. My next question is...What do the essential fatty acids do to help out > kids? What is the actual benefit and how do you know that they need this? Flax is high in omega 3 fatty acids. Most americans get 10-20 times more omega 6 than omega 3. Both are needed but in general we should all shift the balance towards more omega 3. The 3 tends to reduce inflammatory action, decrease cholesterol and improve general balance of HDL / LDL and so is thought to help in heart disease prevention. They are actually being tested as one part of a treatment for critically ill people in massive organ failure in ICU (can give refs on this). So that is the general population - we should eat more 3 and less 6 (Canola oil is liked in part because it has more 3 than most oil). Some autistics have high cholesterol, mine is one who does. So for them more 3 may help, partcularly as I use ground flax seeds in his bread instead of egg. Whether it may help with the gut inflammatio9n is highly speculative. Basically it can't hurt is my thought. BUT, and this is a big one, flax is very high in fiber (partly why it helps fatty status) and must be started gradually and done with lots of fluid intake to minimize adjustment problems and avoid blocage because of not enough fluid for the fiber. jan
Guest guest
Today I put some Flax seed , Flax oil , ground up sunflower seeds in the rice crispie treats I made. I also put the ground up seeds on top of peanut butter . Nut butters. If you use the seed you can actually bake with it too. I just grind mine in my 9 $ coffee grinder. I will put this stuff in anything and he always goes regular now. Plus they are great Essential fats and vitamin F. kelly P.S. If you buy Flax seed it is cheaper than the oil . After the oil I have runs out I will just keep on using the seed. > Can I ask, If it can't go in anything hot, what do you put it in? Guest guest
: I have heard of flax enemas ( never tried it ) plus what you are suggesting is doable cause I use it in soups , meatloafs, anything . Great idea for using it like that . One thing about the ground up seeds if it is a great fiber which helps keep those intestines rolling. Plus in the colon any fiber soaks up toxins and bad stuff > It helps with constipation cause the colon needs a bulk to push along and with diareaha it absorbs the water. kelly > Thanks for the ideas! Guest guest
Thanks for the ideas! I'll get some seeds next time I'm in -- I just remembered, a few years ago someone at the health food store suggested that I boil some flax seeds in water for 5 min. and then strain the seeds off and mix the flax-water in his juice. This was recommended to help his constipation. It never worked, because his constipation was due to food allergies, but I'm wondering if anyone knows if that method would have the same benefits as the ground flax seeds. Guest guest
Flax seed is easily hidden in ketchup and can be mixed in with hamburger before cooking. My kids are pretty picky, and they eat it up fine this way. Guest guest
I just add a couple of spoons of ground flax seed in my protein shake. Otherwise you can mix it in yogurt or cottage cheese or other foods. > With the flax seed meal, do you just mix it in water? Lordy. You know it's weird, because every few days I will go...but even so, every week and a half or so, my body acts like it hasn't gone for ages. I took Dulcolex again last night, and spent the whole night getting up and going. And darn it...I think i have hemorrhoids now. Lovely. Nothing I ever experienced before. It hurts like a mother. > > Congratulations on getting under 250! that's great. > > I have some kind of special shampoo, I think it starts with an N, but I haven't started using it yet...no real hair loss that I am aware of.
