Guest guest
Marilyn,I know I am still getting carbs in certain foods. I got blood-work done recently and my blood sugar was low, and it was the first week of the diet. I eat a piece of fruit or vegetable with each meal and snack on carrots, apples, etc. Have made the cinnamon raisin bread which contains honey put have no yet attempted the yogurt. The last time on the diet I did not feel or notice a difference, but this time around I feel week and sluggish along with the blood pressure symptoms. I know I had to increase my water intake due to the ileostomy, maybe food is the same thing. At 11:08 AM 11/17/2009, you wrote:My doctor questions whether the lack of carbs and minimized absorption due to the ileostomy lead to these symptoms (ex. low blood sugar causing my blood pressure to drop).Could you please list what you've been eating? We hear this over and over again -- just because you are giving up grains and potatoes does not mean to are giving up carbs! There are plenty of carbs in fruits, vegetables, honey, and properly prepared yogurt!— Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund =

Hopefully, your doctors do, too -- because saying you are getting " no " carbs is the reason for your weakness is the kind of sweeping generalization which makes me want to smack the person who made it upside dah haid! I, personally, have no experience with an ileostomy, so the best I can do is make an educated guess. You live in your body, and you know it better than anyone, including, in many cases, the medical professionals you consult for advice. You may have hit the nail on the head, though. You needed to increase your water intake. It's probable you may need other additions for better absorption. What you might consider adding is some diluted fruit or vegetable juices -- with the plant cells removed, juices tend to be absorbed much faster. (One reason orange JUICE will raise your blood sugar quickly, while eating an orange may take longer to achieve a lift in blood glucose.) If you add the juices, you will also be adding needed fluids. I specify diluted because Elaine always said that juices should be diluted at the beginning of the diet, and most of us find this to be the case. It can take a great deal of work to find the SCD foods which will work best for you -- but it CAN be done. Lots of people here can testify to that. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
