Guest guest
So, judging by the reply to Tai's recent post; is it then normal to have fluctuation in symptoms even while strictly adhering to the diet? If so, is it known what causes this? What causes bacteria to proliferate and create more gas if they are presented with the same (lack of) nutrients every day? I'm having a very bloated day despite eating nothing but legal foods (unless the Lifeway DCCC I recently posted a question about is illegal) and can't figure out what happened. I've been following SCD guidelines for about a week and a half and have been feeling much better, significantly less bloating, less fluid retention, less stomach pain; all of a sudden an increase in those symptoms despite being legal. Perplexing! Thanks in advance from any insight from veteran SCDers! Lili
Guest guest
Hi Lili, > So, judging by the reply to Tai's recent post; is it then normal to have fluctuation in symptoms even while strictly adhering to the diet? OK.. so let's throw the word " normal " out the window. Nice thing about SCD is it truly teaches us how we are all totally unique.. With that said.. yeah.. there is much fluctuation in those first 1-2 years (some people more, some less) while strictly adhering to the diet. > If so, is it known what causes this? What causes bacteria to proliferate and create more gas if they are presented with the same (lack of) nutrients every day? Because there is die-off occurring as the gut dysbiosis gets under better control. This isn't like a 1 day process. It took us quite a while to get to a state of such bad dysbiosis.. Takes time to " self-correct " via diet. I tend to strongly feel that very bad gas is caused by fermentation.. either a food or even intro and getting used to probiotics. That can be one heck of a process for some.. Yogurt notoriously causes me gas if I haven't used it in a couple of days.. Are guts are just depleted of the good guys with these awful ailments. > I'm having a very bloated day despite eating nothing but legal foods (unless the Lifeway DCCC I recently posted a question about is illegal) and can't figure out what happened. Perplexing! It's frustrating.. This happened to me many times where it was like " why am I going through this again " just to realize there is no explanation. Try pulling the DCCC and see if you feel better. You will learn that healing takes time.. but also sometimes there is a culprit which means many of us turn into like private investigators on the diet.. finding what works.. what doesn't.. You're still very very new to the diet and setbacks are part of the game as we heal. Sometimes some of us drive ourselves crazy searching for explanations.. I sure know I did.. today I know that it is just part of the process.. As Marilyn says 2 steps forward.. 1 back.. Jodi

So they adapt rapidly. So it can be best to have low carbs during these kinds of periods, because if your symptoms are transitioning, especially from D to C, food is lying in your system longer and the bacteria take advantage. > I'm having a very bloated day despite eating nothing but legal foods > (unless the Lifeway DCCC I recently posted a question about is > illegal) and can't figure out what happened. Perplexing! It just shows the diet is effecting change in your system, but it is going to take a while to run perfectly. Plus, you are going to have initial die off symptoms that will impact you as well. Mara
