We usually see a decline in Grace for about 3-4 days following sedations. She, also, usually does quite well right after but when she is home for awhile we notice her coordination and stamina drop. She has always been fine within a few days, but if you are concerned you should call the doctor. Grace goes for an MRI next week, so I am not looking foward to the next weekend. Best wishes.

I have a question for all of you concerning odd symptoms after being

put under for MRI/MR Spec.

Abigail went to Childrens DC yeasterday for testing...she woke

quickly. Drink after about a half hour. We were released. Normal,

but a little on the weak side yesterday.

Today, she is still walking in a croutched position. When sedation

is involved...do mito kids often face a set back with gross motor

skills or in other areas? She is eating well, drinking...I expected

for Abby to be as well as she was prior to the MRI by today. It

could be the fasting periods mark. As she had fasted from 7pm to

11:30am the next day.

Any and all thoughts are welcome! :)

Thanks!

Maddie seemed to have setbacks after chloral hydrate sedation for an MRI almost 2 years ago. We noticed what we now believe to be a SLE- she had facial paralysis that was somewhat unusual as it manifested itself from one side of her face to the other over the course of about 6 months before correcting itself. Her left side seemed (and still is) weaker than before (although it was always the weaker side) and she was much more "clingy" for about 4 months afterward. She has not had any procedures requiring sedation since, as we feel that the side affects would be a big issue for her. Depending on what they used, she could just be groggy for a few days- it seems to take forever for things to work themselves out of Maddie's system. HTH!

We had many set back after sedation also. we had them each time with the MRI muscle bio Jtube placement and and many others we now avoid sedation like the plague. Sometime it was a short time before the skills came back and she quit throwing up while others were much longer. I hope things get better for you soon. Cyndi Set backs after sedation? Our had her muscle biopsy at age 11. She did well while in recovery and even ate before leaving the hospital. By the time we got over to the Mc House she was throwing up and has a severe headache. She could not sit up or stand. We made several trips back to the OR before heading out on the 8 hour drive home. lost so much after this sedation. She vomited for three weeks. She had nurses coming in twice a day to give her shots for pain and the vomiting but they did not seem to work. She had to learn to walk again and speaking was most difficult. All the mile stones we had finally met were gone. It took us over a year to get back some of the skills she lost and some we never got back..

I am so sorry you had to go through this but know you are not alone. I have walked that mile and it is a painful one.

I am praying for you and your family.

Blessings,

Myst,

morgan is usualy a little out of it for the next couple of days

following sedation-just woozylike. We never let her fast. Most of

the time with sedation they let us tube her pedialyte up to four

hours before-clear liquids. If it is any longer, she has to be

admitted for IV fluids (d10) prior to the procedure or surgery! We

never fast!!!! I think that fasting can definately causelasting

affects in mito kids.
