Guest guest
Anita & Marcia, I've been using CPAP for approximately 6 years now and have had problems (mainly in the winter) with dry nasal passages. I have never used the pillows (don't think I could stand anything in my nose as it's usually stuffy anyway); I use the mask. The new masks are much improved over the first one I had! As for the dry nose, I use nasal moisturizing spray and sometimes vaseline (the vaseline isn't recommended long-term as I've heard constant use of this can cause it to end up in your lungs -- don't know if that's true or not). I don't want to use the humidifer attachment for the unit, because I'm afraid I'll have problems with mold and my sinuses then. I use the ramp (unless I'm stuffed up with a cold) without a problem, but my husband doesn't (he's on CPAP, too). I'm also hoping after surgery not to have to use the machine any longer. Wouldn't that be nice? :-) Jacque www.tjkeller.net/jkeller/ Initial Consult w/Dr. Sudan 10/27/01, BPD/DS BMI 52, 5'4.5 " , 303 lbs duodenalswitch wrote: > Message: 12 > Date: Thu, 24 May 2001 03:14:44 -0000 > > Subject: Re: RE:C-Paps & apnea/to marcia > > Marcia, > > I also have the same issue with my CPAP and I just got it. If I don't have it on " ramp " though, I get the same feeling, where I feel like I'm suffocating or gasping for air immediately. I still haven't been able to sleep the whole night with it yet, because my nose still gets congested. I use a saline nasal spray, but I haven't gotten my pollen filters for my CPAP yet. Also, I don't have a humidifier attachment either. When I wake up I usually also do it around 2 or 3am and I almost sit bolt upright in bed! I need to take my mask off then, because I can't relax enough with it on to go back to sleep. I do also notice my nose is stuffed up, which is probably what made it hard for me to breath and woke me up(Of course, then I have to get up because I need to pee, but that's a different co-morbidity *rolls*) What I do notice, is that even when I don't use it for the entire night, I feel better than when I don't use it at all. I'm looking forward to the time when I'm used to it and I > can use it the whole night and wake up completely refreshed! Of course, I'm looking even more forward to not having to need it anymore after my BPD/DS! > > Anita > Pre-pre-op in Denver
Guest guest
Thanks for the reply, Jacque. Let's hope surgery does it for all of us!
