Dermatitis herpetiformis and also scalp rash question

Speaking of rashes, has anyone found an effective over the counter product for treating

Psoriasis of the scalp? I was prescribed a shampoo that is

anti-fungal but while it is currently effective, it has side effects

that concern me---aside from side effects, it changes the color and the

texture of the hair.

Head and Shoulders and Selsun Blue are not effective--as my dermatologist cautioned.

I was told Psoriasis is very similar to Seborrheic Dermatitis and often difficult to distinguish. .

I have lost patches of hair and it has not grown back so I keep

returning to the shampoo the doctor prescribed. Wonder if it's not

necessary to change off from time to time before it becomes ineffective.

Thanks,

GenGen,Have you looked into a UVB comb or coal tar shampoos? AmeliaHusband UC 9 yearsMostly SCD 1 year

I have this problem. I used to use a shampoo with tea tree oil until they

added perfume, which took care of that. Recently I have been

trying, when I think of it in time, to rub pure aloe vera into the scalp

and leave it awhile, 15 minutes at least,a nd then shampoo. You may need

to shampoo an extra time. My doctor suggested for another natural

route, to do an oil application to the scalp and leave on for

awhile - he said they use this for cradle cap, anyhow, but that I

think is seborheic(sp) dermatitis. If you can use perfumes shampoos

the one I used to use was by , I think.

Speaking of rashes, has anyone found an effective over the

counter product for treating

Psoriasis of the scalp?

My derm thinks I have seborrheic dermatitis. He had me do an allergy free

regimin that helped other areas but not my scalp. He recommended I use the

neutrogina maximum strength t/sal therapeutic shampoo. That didn't work so I'm

now trying one of the other two he recommended: dhs tar shampoo (from person &

covey) and/or ionil-t coal tar shampoo (from coria). He also prescribed

Clobetasol Propionate foam that I'm supposed to apply twice daily to my scalp.

Hopefully something will help...feels like my head is about to flake off and

take all my hair with it! :)

HI, &

I would ask your doctor for the Clobetasol Propionate foam. It is a

strong steriod, but if you are losing your hair it should help. My daughter had to use it since she had a reaction to

Humira and lost soo much hair due to the inflammation on her scalp. It was such a horrible time.Good luckBelle Subject: Re: Dermatitis herpetiformis and also scalp rash questionTo: BTVC-SCD Date: Saturday, November 21, 2009, 11:32 PM

:) Oh I've got the foam. I used it last night and my scalp does already look

better. Well...in the places where I applied it. Do you know how hard it is to

rub that stuff on your entire scalp? The hair loss I've been assured (by 3

separate docs) is my body reacting to the massive flare up I had in july. I

can't remember the name of the condition but it's seen a lot in women who have

recently given birth. It's the body's response to a traumatic event. Here's

hoping they're right! :)
