Guest guest
Hi Carol: Here are two links that are very interesting in the use of ALA. Dr Berkson is truly an ALA expert. The info on links will explain more than I could ever write. :-))) Hugs, abhi Click here: Alpha Lipoic Acid and Liver Disease (Dec 2007) Townsend Letter for Doctors & Patients LDN & Alpha lipoic acid - Crohns Disease Forum- Support forum for IBD, Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease
Guest guest
Morning Carol: I purchase mine online because Dr Berkson says most are no pure. He recommends 'Metobolic Maintenance'. My Pulm. recommened 200 mg. daily so I purchase the 100 mg and take 1 twice a day. I also take the ' Flax Complete- Budwig Formula 240 mg.' from BioNatures'- online. Rotate each day. 1 day Metobolic, one day Budwig. Note: Flax is also ALA. Hope this helps. Hugs, abhi

Guest guest
Note: Flax is also ALA. Uhm, no. Flax seed oil contains alpha linoleic acid, which is an Omega 3 oil -- which needs to be converted in the body to gamma-linoleic acid, and also DHA and EPA. DHA and EPA are found in fish oils, and GLA is found in Evening primrose. Some people (like me) have a flaw in the conversion of ALA to the more active stuff. Alpha Lipoic Acid (also confusingly abbreviated as ALA, just as alpha linoleic acid is) is a whole 'nother breed of beastie. It's an antioxident, among other things, has been used for regeneration of damaged nerves in diabetic neuropathy and/or prevention of damage in the first place, and in cases of hepatitis and other liver issues. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Alpha Lipoic Acid is also used for low dose constant chelation therapy. Pulls metals out of central nervous system. With constant usage more metals get dumped out of the body as opposed to being dumped within the body. Jodi

Is this done IV or if not IV, what dosage of ALA is typically used for this? — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund

Guest guest
Marilyn.. It depends.. Some just use ALA alone every 3 hours some use it together with DMPS (the DMPS like every 8 hours) This is Andy Cutler's protocol. Typical dosage is about 50mg orally.. some people gradually increase this dosage. Some have a lot of success with this.. others not so much. Jodi > Interesting. Hadn't read this. Interesting, since what is used for diabetic neuropathy is more like 300-1200 mg orally. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Hmm.. So this amount 300-1200mg is daily? So 50mg every 3 hours would be 8 doses a day (people actually wake up to take it) so that is 50mg X 8 = 400 mg daily.. This is very interesting indeed. How does it work for diabetic neuropathy? I have an online friend using ALA with LDN with fabulous results meanwhile a different friend did it and it caused somewhat of a bells palsy reaction in her face. Pretty wacky. She has Lyme Disease. The ALA pushed it over the edge. Jodi > >It depends..
