Guest guest
First off I read some of the posts not all I get tired so I apologze in advance if I forget to mention anyone. I am thrilled to still see you here. Shell I love it when you old timers are real so I know what to expect. By the way a long time ago I showed my husband your before and after pictures and he stated you were gorgeous! So again thos damn scale numbers keep us cracy. Ok, I think that i am doing pretty good, but I do have some questions. I take my pain meds every 6 hours, the minimum dosage. I try to let more time go by but then I hurt too much. How long did you guys stay on the meds? Also I started my period 3 days after surgery and at this point not sure what pain belongs to what! I eat approx 2 oz at meals and a popcicle in between. Is that about right cause if I relied on hunger i would'nt eat. I still am sleeping on a reclyner, too hard to lay down yet. how long for you guys? Ok, here is the question about head hunger. Why am I day dreaming about food when I could care less if I eat it? Is this the head hunger you guys talk about? Boy do I feel groggy for a half hour after the meds. It is liquid codeine. I can't wait to when I don'yt need them.Ok, thats all for now since i am going back to bed. By the way all you who are close, I keep praying for you, you are just around the corner to being on the other side. cecilia
Guest guest
Let's see..I took the pain meds for quite a while...frankly, it heleped me to sleep. But, I had some pain for several days. I didn't sleep in a recliner, but I slept on my back with lots and lots of pillows propping me up for a couple of weeks. Sounds like your food is just fine...it's good to try and eat, particularly if you are eating what you are supposed to. My mom was taking carer of me, so she made sure I ate the 2 oz. meals three times a day. I wasn't hungry either, and let to my own devices, I probably wouldn't have eaten anything. But, you are healing, and you need some nourishment. Head hunger...yeah, that's what we are talking about. Fantasizing about food, or having a desire or craving, even when physically you really don't care. I think that subsides more when you have moved on to proteins. Well, let me rephrase that...toward the end of stage II, I started getting real hunger. It was because I was needing some protein. But now, I sometimes experience head hunger. Things sound good...or I fantasize about it...but in reality, I can't eat it. It will make me sick or I would only be able to have a bite. But recently, I'm pretty apathetic towards food. That's a blessing...but one which I know will change a bit with time...after the "honeymoon period" is over. Hope that helps. You're doing just fine. Take it easy...sleep a lot...get up and walk a bit...take your vitamins...work on your water (or popsicle) consumption (I found that popsicles and herbal tea were great...as was broth. Regular water was touh for a while, even though I was a BIG water drinker before. The water is getting easier.) Guest guest
Hi Cec well i felt bad and head foggy from the liquid pain med, and my friend Shonda had that too, and told me she had switched to tylenol caplets and man that made the differance from night and day, I did so much better on that , the codeine was just making my head achey and foggy and groggy. Yes head hunger is a weird thing, you smell pizza and you want some but you can barely get your water in let alone the few protein things, but your brain is screaming :oh just a little pizza wont kill me" Some people have said they eat something they crave but dont swallow it and just spit it into a napkin. That is too much work for me. I am just now in the last two months ( i am now 6mths post op) feeling hungry................but this happens more often if i forget to eat.,at work i am good cause we have a designated lunchtime.................my days off i have to think hard about it. Good luck this week, just try to take things a day at a time...................glad you are home now and able to post, but to me the most important thing i have learned is sip sip sip and sip your water, and get walks in and rest when you need to , and dont feel guilty about resting Colleencecilia wrote: First off I read some of the posts not all I get tired so I apologze in advance if I forget to mention anyone. Guest guest
Cecilia you just about described my recovery to a t. I had to take my meds every 4 hours, I had alot of pain. I too had head hunger. And I had my period, immediately after surgery. So its all normal...just keep taking them if you need to...dont try to brave it out..no need to suffer. It will pass quickly. > First off I read some of the posts not all I get tired so I apologze > in advance if I forget to mention anyone. I am thrilled to > still see you here. Guest guest
I have to smile! I so remember that stage. I could not even eat that much a week out..I think I managed a protein shake and a little jar of baby food a day, with perhaps a bit of broth. I slept in a recliner for 6-7 weeks, til I was so sick of it that I had to lay down! But when I did, I slept with either knees up on my back, or on my side with knees tucked and a pillow under the belly. And liquid codiene...I was actually on liquid Oxycodin, and I tried to take as little as possible...I detest painkillers. And I as well got my period about 3 days after WLS...my first all-by-myself one in years! My doc says it is because the body experienced such a shock ( and you probably lost a good deal of weight already, even if you do not see it) that your period came! You sound like you are doing fine...right now, take care of yourself, do not push yourself too hard, and make sure to take the protein shakes and vits...MOST IMPORTANT!!cecilia wrote: First off I read some of the posts not all I get tired so I apologze in advance if I forget to mention anyone.
