Guest guest
Hello again, Wanted to update you on the latest. They are going to put in a stomach tube and tracheostomy tomorrow, and remove the ventilator and nose feeding tube. Long story short, they feel the fluid is a result of malnutrition. Her albumen level is 1.2, normal is 4-5. This is causing fluids to leak into her tissues. They can't get her enough nutrition through the nose tube, and the fluid builds up, so they give her lasix to remove the fluid, but then her nutrition runs right through her, instead of being absorbed into her system. They feel with the stomach tube, they can get her more nutrition at a faster rate. If she has trouble breathing, they can hook the vent to the trach and it will be more comfortable for her. She's trying to communicate with us, but we have difficulty understanding, and that frustrates her. The trach will allow her to communicate. Doc says once we get her straightened out, she will probably need to go to a long term care facility for a time. Rehab and therapy will be required to get her back to normal. We are saddened that it appears it will be quite some time yet before she's back home with us. Yet we are hopeful and expect that day will come, eventually. Please continue the prayer support, and update the group, because we know that prayers are what's keeping us all going. Thanks, and I'll keep in touch.
