/Requesting Operative Reports?

Hi ,

Do you ask the surgeon for a copy of this or do you ask one of the

nurses once you are on the floor? Do they give you a hard time for

asking? Do they just let you look at it or will they give you a copy

to 'take with you'?

In the past it seems like doctors/hospitals have been reluctant to

release MY OWN information to ME! Like, what do they think, I'm

gonna find something to use against them? Or maybe they just wrote

something snide about me like " Elaine " on a 'Seinfeld' episode I

saw.

Hi Terri:

I didn't ask for it while I was in the hospital. I requested it from

my surgeon's office after I was home. They copied it and gave it to

me with no problem and no questions asked. I asked for it because my

surgeon is 2 hours away from me and if I ever have complications and

need to go to the hospital or doctor in my home town, I want to be

able to intelligently explain what procedure I had done and what

exactly they did while they were in there. I also found out my

common channel was 80 cm from reading my operative report and I

wouldn't have known that either. I think its a good thing to have.

Thank you , I will definitely be asking for this - I am also

around 3 hours away from my surgeon!
