Hi e,

Sympathy here! I am a size 28-30 and have trouble finding clothes

that fit. My biggest problem is I am 6 feet tall and while things

may fit width-wise, they are almost always too short. Pants always

look like capris, long sleeves are 3/4 length on me! I am just

beginning to see some " tall " lengths in some pants (Lane and,

The Avenue in many malls). I have had *some* luck ordering from

catalogues (Lane and Roamans) but I do agree with you; I like

to feel them and try them on too. Can't tell you how many times I

have had to pay to mail back something that looked great in the

catalogue but looked horrible on me.

So, here's to hoping that this surgery will make this a non-issue!

Hey Terri-- I am 5'2" and have just the opposite problem! Pants are always 6" too long at a minimum, and lately, dresses are practically dragging on the ground.--and Sleeves! always too tight in the upper arm and hanging over my finger tips. Proportions are inevitably wrong for me-- I wind up looking like I am wearing my father's clothes, especially in suits. My local Lane has turned suddenly into land of the Trendoid-- way too weird colors and fabrics (Can't say I ever looked good in shinny lime green polyester)-- And since I am 49 and work in a law office, it does me no good what so ever. My best choices have come from the catalogs-- at least it saves wear and tear on my knee joints-- Lane , Romans, sometimes Regalia but it tends to be too polyester double-knit, Junonia, and Silhouettes-- got to be picky and got to check brands-- but after a very long time, I have gotten so I am seldom mistaken about what will work and what won't-- I even get my shoes thru catalogs-- double wide and in festive colors, even. (Teal, not lime green, please)

I am surprised, though, that Portland isn't more productive than the Oregon Coast for shops.

I have a friend who is probably a woman's size 18 who has a lot of luck at local independent boutiques -- but most of them don't get anywhere near the 26 and up sizes. If I had more time, I would sew my own stuff more often than I do -- Nan E. (who really likes cotton and cotton blends above all other fabrics, except silk).

Thanks, Kathy -- I'll check it out -- Nan E.

For quality cotton clothes I really like this company:

I am with you. I'm 5' and 350 and 48 and have a hard time finding things. I sew for my girls and others, but not for myself. We just got a s and their capris are just the right length for me. Hooray!! They just opened and had a lot to choose from so I stocked up, plus my 23 yr.old petite daughter is working there til she starts back to school and she gave me a discount! Looking forward to the day that I can go to Wal Mart with the rest of the world! Joy in NC
