Guest guest
Hi guys, Thank you for all your input! I saved every e-mail I got on this subject so next time, I can just re-read the e-mails instead of having to ask the question again Your ideas were very very helpful. Our ped gastro says he's honestly run out of ideas. He called Shoffner who said to go ahead and start Asher on the Reglan. He said we could pursue motility testing but would have to go to one of the major hospitals to do it and that you need a cooperative child (ha! at age 3 with as much Ash has been through the word cooperative does not apply in these situations). My husband and I have decided to temporarily take Asher off the laxatives which have made his BM's (when he has them) extremely runny (which makes Asher gag and withold even more) to see if the mito supplements (which were only started 2 weeks ago - esp. the carnitine, and COQ10) could help. Maybe make the stools soft but not runny. Then we will use suppositories or enemas if he doesn't go in 5 or so days (he doesn't eat, he's only on an "elemental" formula diet). Then, if that doesn't help after a couple weeks we will try the Reglan. We'll still keep him on the Benefiber. I would go through the list and thank you all individually but everyone replied!! (thanks!) and I don't want to clog up the e-mail system (so to speak:). Love, Anne R
Guest guest
Anne, I am way behind on my mails, but thought I would post a few things that have worked with Chelsea. When she was on a pediasure diet, her bm's were like a rock. She did go every day, but seemed to have trouble pushing it out. I started giving her V-8 and apple or pear juice and that seemed to help some. We got a juicer and I made her fresh raw veggie and fruit juices and her bm's improved a bit more. Raw carrot juice seemed to work best. I eventually transitioned her to a blended vegan diet high in soluble and insoluble fiber, and this has been the best for her. She goes 1+ x's a day, her bm's tend to be large, but soft. She still has a tendency to slow down at times, so I give her a can of sunsweet prune juice and that seems to help. or raw carrot juice, if it has been over 24hrs (she has seizures if she has diarrhea or hasn't gone in a long time) These foods have definatly helped with her constipation and can be easily blended in a standard kitchen blender: papaya pears overripe bananas cooked legumes (like lentils, blackeye peas, split peas, etc) peaches HTH, I hope you find some solutions to Asher's dysmotility, I will keep you in my prayers=) e, Chelsea's mom(nonspecific mito)
