My mother used vanilla beans for flavoring. She kept a container of sugar

with a bean in it, and used this sugar in recipes that called for vanilla.

She also would boil the bean in liquid ingredients for some of the recipes.

AGH!

I just quadrupled the zucchini muffin recipe(7 doz!) - they are baking in the oven. As I was cleaning up - I realized that I accidently used my old vanilla, the one with sugar as an ingredient. I'm about to cry. I promptly threw it away, so as to not repeat that mistake. Although I know the answer, I'm trying so hard to rationalize that it's only a miniscule part of the recipe and I won't have to throw them all away. Thoughts?

Thoughts? You could serve them at thanksgiving =) That's a total bummer though!!! It IS a miniscule part of the recipe, and may or may not do you harm, so it's pretty much up to you whether you eat them or not...Peace =)Alyssa 15 yoUC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)No meds!

You know what I've said about what is miniscule to us is a bacteria feast. I did

this too, with a huge roast, accidentally added an illegal ingredient, so I

could not eat it- but my family did. My daughter took the leftovers back to

college with her and her friends had a feast. Your extended family (non SCD)

will love them. Serve them with the dinner, give them as gifts, and make another

small batch for you.

My son came home from school and is chowing down on my pecan supply. I'm happy

he's not eating chips. SCD food is good- and good for you!. I can't keep my kids

out of my food

Freeze, wrap prettily and give to co-workers, neighbors, etc.  They'll love it.

www.digestivewellness.com I get my Vanilla from there and i've gotten the small organic bottles as well as the large flying fox vanilla. Both SCD legal and both taste great.-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 7 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 5 pills a dayTo: BTVC-SCD From: lynelle.lindberg@...Date: Thu, 18 Feb 2010 04:06:04 +0000Subject: vanilla

I had been using the "mexican" vanilla with the rooster on the label for so long and doing well. However, my parents recently moved from Texas and they were my supplier of the vanilla. Now I am trying to remember the "do's and don'ts" of vanilla for SCD compliancy.

Could someone remind me of vanilla options that are LEGAL for strict SCDers like myself. What do you use and where do you buy it? Much appreciated!
