Guest guest
When I was attending the Kaiser classes here in Riverside, we were only told that it was recommended that you lose 10%. I know it was different the year before because my friend had surgery and she couldn't get anything done until then. On all the handouts that Kaiser gave to us in the classes, it just said recommended. I know that I am going thru Crown Bariatrics, and they say the same thing. I know that if I hadn't lost anything, the doctor would not do surgery. I have lost 17lbs. and 26lbs would of been the 10%. When I went to see the surgeon on Monday, he just told me to cut out bread, pasta, rice and potatoes and not to gain any weight from that day when I weighed there. I feel that any weight lost before this surgery is a plus, any way you look at it. I think that if I was sent to Pacific Bariatrics in San Diego, they are adamant about the 10% also. It would just be nice for everybody to do things one way so we don't get confused. I know that I would come on here and ask question after question because everything is so different from So. Cal and Nor Cal. Losing weight is so difficult....as we all know. Patty Riverside
Guest guest
I know what you mean. Richmond is strictly by the letter with the 10%..its not an option and you can't start losing it until you are weighed on the day of orientation. I am not sure how strict the SF or Fremont facility is about the 10%. Hang in there. Guest guest
Well, I called and left a message about the pain I am now having with the hernia. Dr Hahn said he would repair it at surgery. I have only 13 pounds left to loose for my 10% I am down 17 since February, my approval month. I was wondering that if I am having problems that are going to be fixed during surgery, has an earlier that 10% date ever been issued. If this isn't the case, I am going to have to do something drastic to get the last of the weight off. This sure puts a damper on things. Guest guest
Well, maybe they will waive it for you since you have something going on with your body. I can't confirm this for sure. I only know of one person that did not have to lose the entire 10%. She has only lost 11 pounds and was told not to lose anymore neither can she gain any. The surgeon wants her to maaintain until she gets some test done because if she loses more, it will put her BMI below 35 and he has informed her he will not performe surgery on her if that happens. she is at the very low weight (191) but she has other life threatening conditions associated with being obese. So, hang in there you just never know. I wish you the best.
