Guest guest
Any green smoothie ideas would be great also. I will have to order the book. Someone mentioned they helped boost the iron.Yep =) My favorite smoothie is a banana, a few frozen strawberries, a few frozen peaches, some yogurt, some virgin coconut oil, and a few big handfuls of spinach. Spinach is the best smoothie green IMO because you can load a smoothie up with it and not even taste it! Chard is the second best, then kale, and romaine is really bitter. I'll need to experiment with some different ones. Most sources recommend the green smoothies with just fruit and greens, no yogurt and stuff, for food combining reasons, but I need the calories and my body seems to tolerate it better with the yogurt added. Plus, it makes it creamier =) Peace =)Alyssa 15 yoUC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)No meds!
Guest guest
Thanks, I will get some baby spinach leaves. I got celery, green apples and green grapes--not sure how that will go over--haven't had a chance to experiment with the new gadget. Doc said iron is low again (and I haven't been strict SCD) but otherwise no symptoms related to cd. Do you strain it or just drink 'as-is'? I usually only liked banana/strawberry but I'll find a good combo lol. Never thought of peaches either. Coconut oil sounds good. You didn't mention honey so you don't need it with the fruit? I'd definitely do a banana in every one because it helps with the texture, and keeps it from separating. For liquid I just add water, but you could use juice which would sweeten it also. The celery, apples and grapes you bought sound really good for juicing, but I've never tried them in a smoothie... Peace =)Alyssa 15 yoUC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)No meds! Guest guest
can someone post some exact recipes? Thanks, Re: Savory Smoothie Ideas Do you strain it or just drink 'as-is'? Guest guest
I am not sure if this is what you are looking for or not, but I’ll offer up this suggestion and you can take it or leave it. This recipe is from memory, and one Marilyn posted on this list. 6 oz tomato juice 6 oz chicken broth 3 to 4 oz cooked chicken Approx ½ cup yogurt Hard boiled egg (I did not like the taste of the hard boiled egg, so after trying this the first time I substituted a raw egg) Dash of pepper Dash of basil Dash of thyme Blend all ingredients well (I use an immersion or stick blender) Can be served hot or cold I made this a lot last winter and heated it to eat like a soup. This will be a good recipe for me to try again now that the weather is changing to cooler temps here. Guest guest
When I do green smoothies I never follow exact recipes. I just throw a bunch of stuff in a blender. But one that I like to eat is 1 banana, water, a handful or two of spinach, about a cup of strawberries, (maybe a couple other berries too), 1/2 cup of mango, 1/4 cup pineapple. That or I'll replace those last 2 with an orange. Those measurements are very approximate though. If you're interested, I just bought the book, " green smoothie revolution. " It has hundreds of recipes and talks about things like the importance of rotating your greens, nutrition, blending vs. juicing...etc etc. There's actually another book that I read a bit while in NM at this wonderful fresh smoothie/juice bar. I talked with the owner for hours and she came up with some amazing combinations for me. The book that helped her get started actually had specific recipes for specific conditions (including CD and UC). I'll try to see if I can find it again. Happy blending! Guest guest
Am glad to read green smoothie ideas. I had originally hoped to find some without bananas/sweets. I know there are some savory green smoothie recipes in "Green for Life," as well as sweet ones. I think the savory ones used tomatoes and avocados with the greens, instead of sweet fruits. You could also probably add whatever spices you want/ Peace =)Alyssa 15 yoUC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)No meds!
