Guest guest
I don't know how long many of you have been on the main DS list in lurk mode or public but I have been there for quite awhile as a lurker first and then a poster. Please indulge me and take what I'm about to say as just MY observations based on the most recent posts. Do any of you understand the nature of free speech as described by the constitution? The reason I ask is that given that right one is also given the right of protest when ones right to free speech has been impeded. That being said, Deb's right to speak her mind has been moderated, censored, muted etc. Call it what you want but she has been silenced by the moderator of that group. Which was entirely within her bounds as the group moderator. Just as it is entirely within the bounds for those who disagree to take issue with it and raise a petition to have that moderation removed. The petition has been recognized by the moderator and the group at large. Those wishing to sign it have and those wishing to sign it can now find it in the files section at the site. The net effect of this petition has been that people have chosen sides based upon their beliefs. That is also fine. What has gotten lost in all of this is the most important part; DEB'S NEED AND RIGHTS TO EXPRESS HERSELF IN HER TIME OF NEED AND PAIN. Something that has effectively been stripped away from her. I have spoken with her after having read that she was told she could post but would be moderated. What good is speaking out if your true feelings can't and won't be heard? She could of course post anonymously or rejoin under an alias but her response to that was that she would undertake no such ruse. If she couldn't speak freely than she wouldn't speak at all. There are those that feel strongly about it and feel the need to protect their freedom and right to speak out if there is ever a time when they are in pain. And isn't' that why most people join this list? To be able to ask questions, answer questions, scream from the highest mountains about their successes, express sadness and cry when things aren't going their way. I joined this list for all those things pre op as well as to get the most information I could glean from the people experiencing all these things. To all the Pre ops out there; I can only hope and pray that your respective surgeries turn out complication free. There is nothing better than going in to the hospital and coming out with a successful and complication free surgery. BUT, if it should turn out otherwise wouldn't you like to have a venue where you could speak out about it to share your experience with others researching WLS for themselves? THAT is what this list is supposed to be! Deb's surgery was not successful and it has been well documented here by her. That is up until now. It is a real shame that she has been muted so. Her story is hers and should only be told by her. That can no longer happen. It should also be noted that Deb offered a wealth of info to this group from a nursing professionals standpoint. Valuable information that she readily and happily shared with others. The group will now suffer from that loss. In closing I would just like to say that this group is full of wonderfully talented and smart people from all walks of life. Let's use each other as a resource for the common good of all of us. To quote that often misused line now where it seems most appropriate: " Can't we all just get along? " Off my soap box now. Thank you all for indulging me. -- Best Regards, Rich " Once in awhile you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right " RH/JG " One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain " BM
