Guest guest
I'm baaaaack! While I appreciate the sentiment behind wanting to support Deb, the people who are promoting this petition should realize by now that it's nothing more than a token effort. Bombarding this list with petition-related messages isn't going to accomplish a thing. isn't going to change her stance based on any petition. I nor are inclined to advise to change a thing. How about we let the petition crap die now, please? There are about 1250 people on this list, and a tiny handful are perpetuating this thing. Further, only a miniscule perentage of list members have felt moved to put their name on the petition. That alone should tell how fruitless this whole thing is. We care about Deb. The petition thing, however, is just plain silly. The list does not need to be turned into a crusade against any doctor, and I think the vast majority of the list members concur. Up until now, this list has been unmoderated, and the archives have NEVER, EVER been retroactively edited (except in one case when a spammer sent bloody war pictures to the list and I did delete them from the archive). But, I'm almost at the point now where I'm ready to go in to the archives and delete all the petition crap. It's sooooo off topic for this list. It's distracting and it's just plain silly. Supporting Deb isn't off-topic. The petition stuff is off topic. I'm tired of seeing it. If it keeps up, I'm ready to start start deleting them from the archive. It's just so much flotsam, and no petition is going to accomplish anything. If the few people who insist on perpetuating this petition issue would take that energy and direct it in a PRODUCTIVE way, maybe someone would benefit. Deb, and Deb alone, chooses not to post here. If and when she chooses to post without incendiary comments, we are here for her 100% and those posts will be welcomed here. Bombarding this list with > petition-related messages isn't going to accomplish a thing.... i can't speak for everyone involved, but i know a number of us knew from the beginning that this petition wouldn't result in deb being returned to uncensored status. that doesn't make it any less important. as rich said, it is one's constitutional right to protest when one feels that one's freedom of speech has been impeded. a petition is a peaceful protest. so in my opinion, it's far from futile and in fact is very meaningful, regardless of the results or of the number of participants. and i would still invite others who share this view, as well as those stated in the petition, to add their signatures. it can be found at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/duodenalswitch/files/%2A%2APETITION%20AGAINST%20CE\ NSORSHIP%2A%2A/ > ....I'm almost at the point now where I'm ready to go in to the archives > and delete all the petition crap. It's sooooo off topic for this list. It's > distracting and it's just plain silly.... further measures to impinge upon free speech would only serve to reinforce the point of the petition, that each individual's voice is important and should be heard rather than policed. as for being off topic any time people gather to share, freedom of speech is an issue. as for it being distracting, you are free to ignore it, post around it, and, exercising your free speech, attempt to discredit it. and if you wish, you can further violate people's right to free speech and destroy it. and should it vanish from site, than list members will know that is what happened and perhaps then understand it's meaning. erika > > Message: 25 > Date: Sat, 26 May 2001 15:18:52 EDT > From: inSLO@... > Subject: Re: Clothing Commiseration > > Virtually all of my clothes for the past ten years have come from Making It > Big, a mail order company in California.
