Guest guest
I wish this were true for Gracie, it would be an easy answer. She had the sandy stools before the Miralax. The poor kid is a GI mystery so we will probally never get an easy answer to her. But thanks for the heads up. She just started the Miralax last week so I will not be too concerned if they get worse. We were not giving her any type of laxitive or stool softener before, so it would be her natural system causing this. I just wonder why? Thanks again. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. What is Retentive Constipation? Gracies GI kept talking about constipation as the culprit for her excesivly hard, sandy stools, but she goes every day. Is this something I should be concerned about? Also does it take awhile for the Miralax to start working. She has been on it for 5 days now, and we still have not noticed a difference. She is continuing to go everyday but it takes her forever (sometimes all day) to get it out. It is still very hard too, (no sand though this week ). Thanks again. Guest guest
, We have also dealt with the sandy stools (before and after Miralax) and were told they were all part of the constipation thing. In fact when we were listing Will's issues the Dr was not all that worried until we mentioned the " sandy " texture and then she said it is a classic sign of Retentive Constipation. We started the miralax and have had pretty good luck with it, but we have run into it working too well at times. Hope that helps

Guest guest
-, I denied that our had constipation for years. I figured that because she went every day and she did not scream that she was not constipated. Her stools did not look like little rocks or anything. At 3 we tried to potty train her. It did not work at all. I finally admitted that there is a problem. Her stools were huge. Large stools are an indication of constipation. Not to sound gross but her stools at the age of 3 were larger than a large adult's. has been on Mirilax since. Our script calls for a capful a day but we adjust it as necessary. The bottle says that it takes several days to work. Our weighs about 43 pounds and uses about 1/2 a capful every day. She takes daily antibiotics so she would need more mirilax if she was to come of antibiotics some day (they can cause diarrhea). Could you need more miralax? Are you giving it with plenty of water? It is supposed to be given with an 8 oz glass because it can cause dehydration in some people. If your child will not drink 8 oz you can put it in an ounce or two of water and then have them drink some other liquid. I would talk to your doctor about possibly adjusting your dose. Mirilax has been a miraculous drug for our family.
Guest guest
I will ask when I call, thanks. She has been on the Miralax for about 6 days now and we have not noticed a difference, yet. I was going to call her GI this week and ask how much I should increase the dose (she already told me I probally would need too.) Is there an OTC stool softener, like Colace, you can use on kids? She will be 2 on Wed. so I was worried about an adult strength. I hate giving her more medicine since she already takes soooo much, and has liver damage, but I also hate seeing fistulas on a two year old. Back to the old Catch 22. I guess we will just have to increase the inventory of our countertop pharmacy. Thanks again for your help, it is priceless.
