Thanks . Hope everyone else had a good holiday. I have noticed the list

is slow. I personally have been in a crash due to cooking and traveling on

thursday, and yes shopping on Friday. This is the first year I did not have to

work so I thought I would hit some sales. I did not get up till 8:30 but did

hit sales until 2 pm, driving 45 minutes to town. Got a few deals on dvd's and

a software program wanted but not much else.

Anyhow, came home, made something to eat and slept until noon today, Saturday.

Have a sore throat and generally feeling lousy. My son was in a crash on

Tuesday, stayed home from school and slept till 4 in the afternoon. He is fine

now, got up at 9 am. I think he passed it on to me.

Hope everyone else is fine.

Hi ,

I went shopping on black Friday one year, and I swore I would NEVER go out

shopping again on Black Friday(the day after Thanksgiving Day). It is way too

busy and crowded, people pushing, and shoving, and grabbing, and walking into

you. The shoppers have NO consideration for anyone, if you are in the way, look

out!!!

And when I went I wasn't as sick as I am now. I can't imagine how hard it would

be to go now that my health is so much worse.

Sorry you had a hard day yesterday, but did you manage to get any great sales??

I hope you rested up today. :-)

Ann-Marie,

I did take it kind of easy yesterday, I must admit. I did make some

peanut butter candies for the holidays in the evening and we got the

tree up in the stand but no decorations on it yet.

I actually came home without anything at all on the morning of Black

Friday, even though I hit 6 stores I think. They opened at 5:00AM and I

didn't get there until 6:00AM and everything that I was interested in

was already gone. A royal waste of time and energy. Well, I guess I

can say I have tried it, but have to reason to ever try it again.

Janet,

I hope you can take it easy today and am feeling better. It is

difficult enough for us to try to pace ourselves during the rest of the

year, but the added things that need to be done for the holidays makes

it even more difficult not to get sick I broke down and got a pre-lit

tree this year as putting the lights on has always been a pain to deal

with. I must admit that was nice to not have to worry about putting the

lights on.

Feel better!

Speaking of Black Friday sales, does anyone else have problems with the

TIMES for these? Early Bird specials, indeed. Like 6 AM to 11 AM. One chain

even had a 5 AM to 10 AM special. The paper related the local store manager

saying that it was still DARK at 5 AM, and he had to have the employees

there by FOUR AM.

All my life I've had a terrible time dealing with school and business normal

hours, like 9 to 5. And it's gotten worse over the years. Most nights I

sleep from about 5 or 6 AM to noon or 1 PM. I don't like this, it interferes

with outdoor activities, and I so wish I could change it, but I just can't.

So I was disappointed to see an ad for a hugely discounted price on

something I really needed, provided I could get to the chain by 6 AM. I

thought seriously of going there BEFORE sleeping, but if ever there would be

a dangerous time for me, that would surely be it. Then later that day I saw

news shots of a couple of tramplings due to crowds rushing in at the opening

bell. One woman was even followed home, and then robbed of her newly

acquired Xbox 360. So it was just as well I didin't go.

Seriously, what do you think, would there be any likely success to a

class-action suit, charging unfair discrimination against

" medically-necessary " night owls?

Janet,

It's pretty much the same here, we had a nice Thanksgiving, at my Aunt's

apartment complex community room. There were thirty-nine of us all together

there :). Then Saturday morning, I woke up bowing down to the great white

throne most of the day. Wasn't able to take any of my meds until 2:00 PM, but I

was finally able to eat some Cream of Wheat at about that time, and ate some

peach pie later in the evening before going to bed. I slept most of the day,

and had my sis bring me some Verners, and was able to drink that last night and

today. I'm feeling better today, but went back to sleep for a nap this morning.

This is the first year in a while that I wasn't able to go to the Black Friday

sales. Money's just too tight this year, so I missed out on that. I love those

sales, and the excitement of starting off the Christmas season. Oh well, maybe

next year :). I think all the sore throat and stomach viri are going around,

too. My daughter was home from school week before last with Bronchitis, and a

few days ago, my niece had the same virus I had yesterday. I wasn't around her

at all, so it must be going around at least in this area. I just hope my

daughter doesn't get sick again, she doesn't need to miss any more school. I

hope you are feeling better real soon. Rest as much as you can, and let

everyone else do for themselves for the next few days :). (P.S. Pie and

whipped cream is a great breakfast, let the kids eat that LOLOL).

I hope everyone had a nice holiday, and didn't over-do it too much, I know I

took it easier this year, as I usually make the pumpkin pies. This year, I just

made a broccoli casserole, which is a lot easier, not as much standing, and no

rolling out pie dough, etc. The single guys bought pie from the stores and they

tasted just as good, I think. At least we had pie lol.

Now only six more days before my neurologist appointment, and I'm getting

" impatient " LOL. Just want something done for my feet, I'm such a whimp... not

only that, I lose my balance more, now too. I hope they will write a

prescription for the orthopedic shoes for me, a lot of people have said they

help them a lot, and they do help my aunt and my sis, so going to ask about it,

anyways. Can't hurt to try, and hopefully, it will work. If not, I will just

have a very expensive pair of sneakers to wear!

Well, that's my update for now, and I'll let everyone know what happens at the

appointment on Friday.

Take care,

Cin

We've never attended the day after Thanksgiving sales. There are too

many outlets around here that normally have great prices. Reading

Pennsylvania has a lot of good outlets, and Flemington NJ. I went to

the LL Bean outlet in Flemington a few weeks ago, and got some pants

for $15 (!) and shirts for $10(!!). This is stuff for my new job,

and very nice. My godmother bought me a nice warm long coat for $60

from the Liz Claiborne outlet. I plan to start shopping again in

January or so, once the hubbub has died down. The locals get lots of

extra coupons for the outlets, so check with friends and family who

live nearby. Also there are smaller malls that are less crowded,

although less selection.

We basically find it VERY difficult to shop at the mall at all

starting this past Friday, until January. My dad is Eastern

Orthodox, so Christmas is January 7th, and his family takes advantage

of the after-holiday clearance sales.

On a similar note, my godmother now buys almost all food/drink gifts

for her friends, as they " have everything " and tastes are different

in clothes etc. But a yummy pie or cookies or bottle of wine seems

to work very well. We have a Pennsylvania Dutch market that has

GREAT homemade stuff too, and Swiss Colony mail order is nice too.

Of course only issue is to know the people enough that you're sure

they aren't diabetic or teetotalers!

Take care,

Many of the stores are offering " Black Monday " sales online... or also called

" Cyber Monday " . So, check out the store websites and you might find some good

deals there even today, and tomorrow, as well.

Re: Re: Thanksgiving

Steve,

All stores in our area opened at 5:00AM. I went to Wal-mart because

there was one item I was interested in. I got there at 6:00AM and they

were parking in the grass as ALL the parking spaces were gone. It took

me 1/2 hour of fighting people just to get to the back of the store

where the item I was interested in HAD been. They were sold out.

I talked to a couple of people that were in line at 2:00. I guess if

you were a drinker and closed the bar, you could just to to the store

and stand in line after last call. :-)

Something tells me you wouldn't get very far in your lawsuit effort,

nice to think you could though.

Hello everyone,

Got up today at 9 am--much better than the last few days. Tomorrow it is back

to work and up by 6 am and off to work by 7 am. I just hope I hear my alarm as

I have not the last few nights. My sore throat is mostly gone so must have been

some sort of virus.

My husband, I , and my son have pretty much just slept and nibbled at crackers

and left over mashed potatoes. Tonight my husband did make pork chops.

Hope everyone else is recovering--I have a desk job but still have to be alert

because I match health insurance claims up with providers by their tax id

numbers. Wouldn't want to send money to the wrong doc!

Take care all, I am going to lay down again.

Janet,

Glad you're feeling better today, and hope you are refreshed for work in the

morning. Pork chops sound delicious, but think I'll wait another day for any

heavy eating. Sticking with soup and the rest of my peach pie I made last

night. Like I said, let the other's take over on the household tasks when

you're not feeling well. Glad hubby is taking care of you and the family :).

My daughter has refilled my Verners glass a few times for me, and I did make

spaghetti for her in the pressure cooker (a lot quicker, less standing and no

stirring), and I made enough to have for a day or two more, and froze 3 good

size portions for later in the week/month. With Christmas coming up, and all

the stressors, plus it being the time of year when all those nasty viri go

around, we all could probably benefit from making a double recipe now and then,

and tucking some meals away in the freezer. Even better, I like to put meals

together in little containers, so each person can just take out what they want

to eat, and pop it in the microwave. Much easier than having to stand over the

stove after a long day at work, or after a shopping excursion, when we're

exhausted. (Not to mention the savings on the gas/electric with the prices

being so high this year LOL).

Take care,

Cin
