Guest guest
Can people give me an idea of how long it takes to start seeing improvement on this diet? I am 45 years old and I having been following this diet " religiously " for 2 solid weeks. I seem to be getting worse, not better! I have not introduced any raw fruits or vegetables, of course, but I am eating the bread, banana bread, yogurt(properly made) eggs, chicken, peanut butter (all per the recipes in the book.) I lead a very active lifestyle and so need a lot of calories.... Does anyone have any advice, suggestions? Should I give it more time? I would love to hear from others about how long it took for the diet to begin to take effect. And, of course, any ideas they might have about what I should be eating to start out, keeping in mind that I need the calories..... Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving! -RZE
Guest guest
One of the common mistakes with SCD is thinking that one can eat any legal food right away at the start of the diet. The first thing I did was buy some SCD cookbooks and looked at all the food thinking yum, I can eat all this? No...... The diet starts slowly, and you add foods in time...slowly..At two weeks I was only eating a few things. Look at the stages on pecanbread.com. You will see that the nut flour breads and peanut butter are advanced foods. I am at seven months and can finally tolerate some nut butter breads. I have not tried peanut butter yet. It is very advanced. Also, when you do introduce breads- go very slowly. I still rely very much on the basics- soups, meat, well cooked veggies, SCD yogurt, pecan butter. My advice is to slow down, go to stage one or even redo the intro for a day or two, and then progress slowly. Some people have difficulty with eggs, and have found improvement if they eliminate them for a while. I can eat them boiled, or in a recipe, but fried eggs are more difficult for me. Keep a food diary to see what bothers you. PJ > > Can people give me an idea of how long it takes to start seeing improvement on this diet? Guest guest
you will get worse before better and I see a few things that are NOT healing you right now - I personally needed 3000 calories a day just to put weight back on (fitday.com will help)but you need to do that thru very easy to digest foods - if yeast is an issue you need to watch those foods too - it is complicated - don't get overwhelmed but Peanutbutter some people can NEVER do again - it's TOUGH to digest check out pecanbread.com the stages helped me know what to add in next -but everyone is different of course and once you get to nut butters grind some pecans I get a 24 oz bag for 10at BJ's - add a lil olive oil if needed and voila - also I did alot of avoc /yog/bana dil juice/pecan butter back then - you can use water instead or green veges - any smoothies should help hang in eileen 21 months scd > > Can people give me an idea of how long it takes to start seeing improvement on this diet? Guest guest
I am also new to this diet -- less than 2 weeks. But my two cents: I am seeing some overall improvement but it goes up and down on a daily basis. I was on chicken soup for 3 days, and now I take broiled fish, 1:1 grape juice, carrots, SCD yogurt, ripe banana, weak coffee or green tea. When I tried introducing peeled, cooked zucchini and spinach, things got worse -- so I will probably not have any veggies for a few days. I am going to retry eggs after 10 day break. I still have symptoms, which I think could be because even these few things may be too much while the gut is healing! I was STRONGLY advised by everyone to go slowly (mostly through forums such as these), and stick to stages listed in pecanbread.com or austinscdfriends.com I am also very busy -- new Assistant Professor with teaching/research duties, but what to do?? We just have to manage, I guess. Good luck.
