This issue came up on another list and I just have a question. What did your

surgeons tell you about taking Ibuprofen, aspirin, etc. I had asked Dr. Hess

about Ibuprofen and he said it was fine. What do other surgeons say? I am

just wondering if I remember the info on this correctly. My understanding is

that once a ways out post op (I am a year+) that we can take them like any

" normal " person. It may bother some, but that is true with the general

population.

I am pre op-but have a little medical info-- I haven't seen anything which would indicate we can't take this kind of med. once we are nicely healed up.

These drugs can cause erosion and bleeding in the stomach-but if you stomach is working okay-it shouldn't be a problem, especially for a short-term. Nan E.

Hi-As a postop,I don't take any meds without talking to my surgeon, Dr.

Herron. He says no to theses meds and I would certainly consult your

surgeon. I asked him recently about vioxx and celebrex and He said if I

really need it only for a few days no longer than a week ok but he worries

about bleeding in stomach. Ellen(Pam

When I asked Dr. Hess a long time ago, he told me I could take ibuprofen and

if I needed viox or celebrex he would write me a script. I was just

wondering what others say. I don't really need it much anymore, but I used A

LOT of ibuprofen before I had surgery.

I asked Dr. Rabkin about this, and if I recall correctly, he said that

because the DS stomach doesn't have an RNY-style " margin " between the

stomach and intestine, we don't have to worry about taking aspirin or

ibuprofen. The reason the RNY folks are told not to use them is that they

can cause irritation to the pouch and could potentially contribute to the

formation of marginal ulcers.
