Guest guest
OK, I've been a bit bad-I can't find a protein shake out there that has 55g of protein per serving-I need to have a shake today too..IS THERE ONE? I am going to GNC today but have not been able to find one..Do I have to just double the dose?
Guest guest
55 grams per serving? You don't need (and can't absorb) that much at one time. If you get in 3 shakes of 20-30 grams a day, you are doing great. I drink Unjury, which has 20 grams and I mix it with 1/2 cup of water so it's little and easy to drink. Your body can't absorb much more than 20-25 grams at a time. The maximum amount I'd do at one time is 30 grams. You can buy isopure, which is already pre-mixed, at GNC for like $3.50 a bottle and it is 40 grams. Split it into 2 servings. I'd order some samples from Vitalady.com to see which shakes you are going to like best. If you want a sample of the unjury, you can order samples from them too at www.unjury.com. I personally find theres to be the tastiest. I have texture issues so this is the only one that works for me. Good luck! Congratulations! And welcome to the other side! Guest guest
Thanks!! I was able to find an isopure that's 50 grams of protein per serving. 12 ounces of water mixed w/ 2 scoops and it doesn't leave a nasty taste! ______________________________________________________ Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. http://store.yahoo.com/redcross-donate3/

Guest guest
If your doctors suggested 55 grams of protein per serving, ignore those who say you can't absorb that much protein at one time. My docs said to use Pro Complex, which gives that much protein in one serving, because it has the best vitamins and supplements in it too. It's a little more expensive than some other proteins, but IMHO it's the best tasting. It comes in Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry and Rocky Road and I get it at various places including Vitamine Shoppe, Elliotts Natural Foods (in Sacramento) and on line at various places including http://www.thevitaminbin.com/procomplex.html which is Vitamin Bin online. (My personal favorites are Chocolate & Vanilla) I'd rather believe my doctors (Pacific Bariatrics doctors in San Diego) than the naysayers on line. Us gastric bypass patients really need the extra protein. I started the stuff to replace one meal a day (mixed with nonfat milk) over a year before I had the surgery and I still drink it almost every day. --Sandi H. > > OK, I've been a bit bad-I can't find a protein shake out there that > > has 55g of protein per serving-I need to have a shake today too..IS > > THERE ONE? Guest guest
Delaina, Hi...Congratulations on your surgery......I am just waiting for a date. Where did you find powder isopure? I have only found it bottled and ready to drink. Thank you, PattyDelaina wrote: Thanks!! Guest guest
That's good to know..Do many other people still supplement protein for a meal a day? I am drinking this isopure fruit punch stuff..NASTY-it's not thick or anything and doesn't leave a bad taste in mouth..I just don't like it! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Patty, I was able to find it at GNC in the Citrus Heights (Sacramento) Sunrsie mall. It was about 50 bucks, but you get a free shaker with it. I wouldn't reccommend the fruit drink-blech! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
When I was researching my own surgery, I took a look at what successful long-term (more than five years) posties were doing. The vast majority of them were STILL using protein drinks. I figured if I wanted the results they got, I should do what they do. It seems to be working so far! If you don't like the Isopure (and I don't, because it has a weird sliminess on my tongue), try one of the sites that has a lot of samples. My favorite (by far) is www.vitalady.com because she doesn't sell anything that isn't good for us. Most of the sites sell stuff for us, and stuff for bodybuilders (who want to bulk up!), and it can get pretty confusing telling which is which! Get a bunch of samples and see what you like. Mix with just water or water and ice, but try experimenting with the amount and temperature of the water. Guest guest
I usually replace breakfast with a 30g protein shake. I then have 2 meals plus 1 or 2 more protein shakes throughout the day. I don't like those bottled Isopure protein drinks.. they leave my mouth feeling dry and kinda puckery. I bought 12 bottles in June and still have some. I will get through them but doubt I will buy any more. I happen to like the protein powder shakes. I use the powder that Costco sells and most times add the sugarfree syrups. My 17 year old likes to make them for herself, too. Guest guest
Cathy V- Could you tell me more about what you do w/ the sugar free syrups and the shakes. Guest guest
Hi Delaina.. I buy the syrups at Cash & Carry or Smart & Final. I know you can find them online but I prefer paying $3.65 - $3.99 per bottle instead of $7+ online (plus shipping). I start with 6-8 oz of water then add some ice cubes, protein powder, some syrup then blend it up in my little blender. I paid under $20 for the blender at Target (Back to Basics Blender Express). It has a 350 watt motor which is stronger than the Magic Bullet. I like adding the coconut syrup to the chocolate shake and the toasted marshmallow to chocolate or vanilla shakes, coffee syrup to the chocolate, peppermint to either.. Sometimes I will use Minute Maid light fruit drinks instead of water as a base then add banana or watermelon syrup to the shake. On occassion I add a little Splenda or some sugar free/fat free dry pudding mix into the shake to change things up. I have tried adding fresh & frozen fruit to the shakes but found that they didn't make the shake amazing enough to warrant the additional calories the fruit added. There are so many possibilities to create. If you do get a small blender, my tip for the day is.. liquid first, then add the ice, THEN add the protein on top of the layer of ice.. I figured that one out after having the powder sink and sit like mud at the bottom of the blender a few times. I hope that helps, and gets you on the road to being a protein shake lover.. Guest guest
Cathy V, these sugar free syrups sounds reasonable. My question to you is this...do they cause bloating and gas? I have tried different sugar free things and they all give me terrible gas and bloating. The protein shakes I drink are the ones by EAS Sport (Carb Control-Chocolate). The are premade and taste like chocolate milk. They have 1 or 2 gram of carbs and less than one gram of sugar. There is 15 grams of protein in each 11 oz shake. I generally have one a day for breakfast because I am not a breakfast person. I was thinking about the coconute flavor and marshmellow flavor but did not want to get it if there was like malitol or lactitol or any other tol in it because that stuff again causes me gas and bloating. I just wanted to give the taste a little boost. Thanks in advance for your input. Pam Marsh --- abra209 abrac@...> wrote: > Hi Delaina.. > > I buy the syrups at Cash & Carry or Smart & Final. Guest guest
Im not Cathy, but I use the sf syrups religously. LOL I use vanilla whey protein and then add whatever flavor Im in the mood for. I do not like the same old same old flavor everyday and this gives me variety. I also add it to my decaf coffee for the same reason. Guest guest
Pam they are flavored with splenda and do not cause gas or bloating with me. Guest guest
I'm not Cathy, but I'll butt in anyway! The syrups should NOT cause bloating and gas. If you have that problem with sugarfree stuff, look on labels of offending foods to see if they list " sugar alcohols " or anything inding in " -itol " like manitol, maltitol, xylitol, etc. Those cause a LOT of problems in a LOT of people. I know a lot of folks who use them in small doses as a laxative. In higher doses they can also cause explosive diarrhea and/or dumping! Most, if not all, of the syrups are sweetened with either Equal or Splenda. Check the labels. Pamela A Marsh wrote: > Cathy V, these sugar free syrups sounds reasonable. Guest guest
I now use Champion Whey Pure Stack. My favorite so far is chocolate and cocoa mocha. Banana Scream and strawberry are really good too. I wasnt too thrilled with the vanilla, but then I had it at work with nothing to add to it. Guest guest
Don't bother. You really can't absorb more than about 30 grams at a time anyway. When I first started with protein drinks, I started with Pro-Complex, but did NOT like the taste. The only way I could drink it was if I mixed it with milk (sugar) and/or fruit (more sugar). Better than that, find a drink you LIKE, without adding the sugar! That's where samples come in handy!
