Guest guest
Hi Will -- this "debate" is nothing -- we had flame wars last weekend. Tom needs his mother to edit his posts, but he is recently post op, and probably cranky from the pain (pax, Tom, just kidding). What our combatants seem to have overlooked is the HIGH bmi issue in the lap vs open debate--I posted a wee while ago, so I won't repeat myself. But, for me at a bmi of 71, they can't get enough gas into the abdomen to make room for the equipment. And even if they did, there is so much fat over around and under everything, they would have to do an archeological dig to find what they want -- can you imagine doing that with a couple of chop sticks? No, it is okay by me to go open, for now. But, if I could wait, I think the ideal is to have the two stage procedure -- cut stomach, wait, loose weight, cut intestines and all the rest. That or a lap band procedure as a temporary measure, loose weight, have the BPD/DS. Dr, Anthone is a fine surgeon, and he has an excellent track record. So I will go along with his program for now, but I bet he puts new wrinkles in it as time goes by. Nan E.
Guest guest
Hi and everybody, I hope " I'm done " doesn't mean your leaving for a while. So many have and I really don't understand their thinking. So there is bickering here now. Big deal! That seems to happen most places from time to time. Why don't people just go no mail and check on the web site? That's what I do all the time anyway. Doesn't clog up the hard drive with 300 messages many of which I wouldn't want to see. Just ignore the " Deb " stuff if you wish. I feel sorry for her and miss her input here and don't believe she should have her material censored but I understand she went off the deep end and owner/moderators had to do something. Two valid sides in this issue. My understanding is that Lap takes longer so you're under anesthesia longer which is an increased risk. But you have fewer scars and much less trauma so recovery is possibly faster. I think much, if not most, of your results will depend the skill of your surgeon so choose wisely! That's what I gathered from Dr. Baltasar's writings. This is why I'm consulting Dr. Gagner. Will
