Guest guest
I have been SCD for about 6.5 weeks now and overall progress has been upward with some hard days or tenderness due to introducing some foods too quickly... Anyway, I was rereading the BTVC book and I saw about diet soda...does anyone know what type of soda we're allowed to drink? I know only once per week... Also it mentioned occasionally having candies or gum with sorbitol...does anyone know more details about this? Thanx : ) Becky
Guest guest
i'm no expert, only been scd 7 months. I steer clear of diet soda because I've heard that the bacteria in our gut can digest those carbs even though we can't.-UC - 1 yearSCD - 3.5 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 4 pills 3 times a day - hopefully scd will help me get off these! Guest guest
I don't drink soda but I substitute it with the suuuuper easy combination of a little (legal) grapefruit juice and seltzer water. Totally controls the soda craving for me and no need to worry about illegals! Guest guest
No sorbitol- that is illegal. Sorbitol is poorly digested and causes GI problems by feeding the bad bugs. The book BTVC mentions saccharine, which was a popular sweetener before sorbitol was used. I doubt one could even find soda or candy made these days with saccharine- although I think you can buy it as a sugar substitute. PJ Not only is sorbitol illegal, it can apparently cause D for normal people. That's one of its characteristics!
Guest guest
I have looked at every store around my neighborhood at different points and couldn't find any cokes with saccharine. I thought maybe this one (Fresca?) from when I was a kid may have it but it used a different sweetener. Perrier and different juices like Welche's grape is a good coke after awhile. From what I understand, seltzer is mixed sugar and water, club soda has added salt so perrier water or sparkling mineral water would be the best route imho unless the seltzer or club soda is legal. I looked up the seltzer but not the club soda--I just don't like it because of the added salt.  Debbie 40 cd  No sorbitol- that is illegal. Guest guest
I found this Ginger Ale to be delightful: http://www.scdrecipe.com/recipes-drink/ginger-ale/ Carol From: BTVC-SCD [mailto:BTVC-SCD ] On Behalf Of Tex Debl I have looked at every store around my neighborhood at different points and couldn't find any cokes with saccharine. Totally controls the soda craving for me and no need to worry about illegals! :)Something I do for a special treat is make raspberry lemonade. When I make raspberry jam, there's always some left in the strainer with the seeds that won't go through. I just pour it all into a glass, fill it with water, and swirl it around to make a sort of 'raspberry water' concentrate type thing. THen I just strain the seeds out, and store it in a jar. THen when I want a drink, I can just squeeze some lemon juice into a glass, pour in some 'raspberry concentrate,' add a little honey, and then fill the rest of the glass with water. It's pretty tasty, I think, and a lot healthier than soda! Peace =)Alyssa 15 yoUC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)No meds! Guest guest
If you really want some yummy candy (and can handle that many carbs), boil honey for a few minutes and then add butter or coconut oil and boil until it's at the soft ball stage. Makes delicious caramel! You can also add in chopped pecans or almond flour. I do 1 C Honey to 1/2 C butter or oil and then I'll stir in a cup of chopped pecans.
