Guest guest
Hi all, I finally went out and got a pedometer. I have only walked 3000 steps today and I thought I was walking much more than that. How in the heck am I supposed to walk 10,000 steps in a day? Who are they kidding? Anyone close to that number and what are your tricks. No reference to marathons either, I have years before that will happen. Thanks Jeanne
Guest guest
Well, I pace when I wait for the elevator for one thing (I did get 10,000 fairly regularly, particularly when I went out and walked for three miles or so). I parked as far away as possible. I took stairs whenever possible. I pace at home when I'm on the phone. I pace at work when I'm on the phone. I get up and get something myself, instead of asking someone to bring it to me. I quit thinking in terms of energy conservation...you know, "Well, I'll wait until I have to do some other thing in the other rooom before I bring my dish in" and started thinking in terms of "opportunities to add steps". That kind of thing. Robynntopazmisskitty wrote: Hi all,I finally went out and got a pedometer. I have only walked 3000 steps today and I thought I was walking much more than that. Guest guest
Hi, Jeanne - I don't have one anymore - can't walk far enough right now to make replacing my old one worthwhile - but my hubby does, and he's found that walking a couple of miles over the course of a day is what it takes to get his steps up to the 10K level. That's a couple of miles OVER what he does if he's just around the house, driving places, and working at his desk. What he's done is to start walking to OR from work most days (he bikes whichever direction he doesn't walk). That's 2.7 miles, and it's enough to get his blood sugars down and make a real difference for him. What used to work for me and hopefully will again once I can walk with less pain is things like walking to the grocery store instead of driving (half mile each way - about 10 minutes to walk, not much less to drive!)
