Guest guest
4 weeks on the diet now and the last three days my diarrhea has been worse than it ever was. I am very confused. My weight has stabalized and my energy is fine but I just can't get rid of the D. I'm thinking about going back on the intro diet for a few days and sort of starting over. At what point though am I wasting my time?
Guest guest
, There is some improvement- more energy, better weight- so you must be absorbing some nutrients. Going back to intro for a little bit is a good idea. I know I have returned to intro a few times to get back on track, as many of us here have. Bone broth soups also help. It's not alinear progress, but it is progress. I know at one month I was thinking it's not better yet. At 7 months it is getting there. Slow and steady.. you are not wasting time. The DCCC is a good binder for D if you have access to it. PJ > > 4 weeks on the diet now and the last three days my diarrhea has been worse than it ever was. I am very confused. At what point though am I wasting my time? Since you began the diet, are there any symptoms, major or related, that have improved unequivocally? Or is your trend line entirely in the negative direction? If anything has improved, major symptoms or related symptoms - then you are not wasting your time - and you should just be patient - D can be increasing now for a variety of reasons - die off, change in gut ecology and your system is adjusting - could be you now have too much yeast or something else has become dominant - sometimes some things get better before they get worse. For some people it is the last thing to go. Or you could be eating too much of something that is effecting you badly, etc. (For instance, I had horrible die off one month in - I was really ill - 103 and etc. for over a week, and D came with that, etc.) If your entire trend line is negative, and nothing at all positive has changed by way of any symptoms being relieved, pain, gas, mucus, blood, skin clarity, mouth sores (can be a symptom of Crohn's), etc., nothing at all is more positive, then it is possible that SCD is not helping you. Guest guest
The first thing I noticed was sleeping well without sweats, nightmares, 'terrors' and a more general sense of 'well-being', just enough to notice it. The very, very last thing to go was 'd'. I started the diet in Dec 05 but probably didn't get all the tools, foods, etc. until January. I stayed on the intro with a few extra foods added, backtrack, add again over and over again. If you notice any type of improvement at all, find a core group of basic go-to foods and stay with it until you get more stabilized imho. Now it's just weird in a really funny way being constipated with the iron pills and yogurt but I was doing 'normally' pre the iron pills. It's a very slow go for some--crohn's and uc especially I think. Debbie 40 cd > 4 weeks on the diet now and the last three days my diarrhea has been > worse than it ever was. I am very confused. Guest guest
Hi , I looked up # of bm’s/day I was having, exactly 3 years into the SCD for CD. At the 3 year mark I was having, on average, 1.9 bm’s/day. Some loose, some formed, mostly D. So not to discourage you, I’m just stating what I charted for my progress. It was a marked improvement over the 15-20 BD bm’s/day I was experiencing pre-SCD. So hang in there. Also, healing is like a sine wave, a horizontal s-shape that sometimes rises above the line, sometimes dips below. So you’ll experience healing, then die-off, then healing, then adjustment, and so forth. For me, it was a steady progression towards healing, albeit long, perhaps because of my age (55) and/or length & severity of my CD. Look on the bright side – where else could you discuss bm’s with such wild abandon!? I hope you feel better soon! At what point though am I wasting my time? I would say at no point you're wasting your time! Four weeks isn't very long at all to be on the diet, and you can't expect to have all your symptoms gone. None of us got sick overnight, so it will take a decent amount of time for us to heal. If all your symptoms are better except for the D, I would definitely say the diet is working for you. Our bodies generally know what they have to do do heal themselves; all we can do is give them the right materials and environment to do so. With the SCD, that's exactly what we're doing. Your body might just be using the D to get rid of dead bacteria, clear out years of build up in your colon...who knows? But chances are, if the D isn't making you very dehydrated or tired or thin, your body knows what it's doing. If I were you, I'd try to stick it out and let your body work things out for itself. Going back on into for a couple days sounds like a good idea, though. Peace =)Alyssa 15 yoUC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)No meds! Guest guest
Thanks everyone. I have had improvements, but not the kind I was expecting. I've had headaches for twenty years and I've been to at least twenty doctors for them. Headaches are GONE! I was haveing very restless sleep with lots of night sweats. I would wake up soaked. Now I sleep like a rock. I was very impatient with my wife and kids. Last night I spent hours building a puzzle with my five year old girl. My wife says I seem calmer. I'll be patient with the D. Guest guest
Also, I am VERY intrigued by LDN. Any thoughts. > > Thanks everyone. And pointed it out to me. And then added, " I like SCD. It's nice to have the woman I married back. Guest guest
Marilyn, I can agree with the mood switch here. I had a very busy Thanksgiving. I handled it a lot better. I don't have ADD, but definitely felt that the stress levels were lower this year. PJ I had only one hissy fit at the end when nob > >I'll be patient with the D. > > , > > My standard line when it comes to healing is " G-d > grant me patience... and grant it NOW!
