Sheryll,

Hi....I am going to be getting mine on the 20th of this month. There is a lady that has had the surgery at our support group. Her daughter makes these beautiful bracelets and sells them to put herself thru college. She also re-sizes them for free when you lose weight. They have all the correct info on it including the Dr. who performed the surgery. This is a very good idea to whoever started it.

I purchased one at a support group meeting in

vacaville from avon. It is so cute and I do no wear

it because I have not taken the time to get it

engraved but I really should as I am leaving next

Saturday for the Bahamas for a week. Anything could

happen so I will find someone local that can do it in

about two days or so.

I wear a bracelet that I ordered from medicalert.org (and I pay for

the yearly service fee). It's a definite must!

My brother in law is an EMT and he said that when you get one, it

still has to readily look like a medic alert bracelet. I showed him

this site when I was looking to have mine done. Having the beads and

such on the band, doesn't make it readily noticable as a medic alert

brancelet. They get missed, it has happened. It would work good as

an " ID " bracelet though.

I had mine designed by my jeweler and it is clearly medic alert, it

has an art deco style to it, so it could pass as just a bracelet to

the untrained eye. EMTs look for the red shield first, which mine has

and is surrounded by two rows of diamonds on the plate so it really

stands out. EMT's also know to look for the symbol if it is tone on

tone bracelet, but it gets hard when they are just a " charm " on a

bracelet or something not large enough to see right away. He also

said that when you wear it, not to put more that one other bracelet

with it on the same wrist, since it also gets lost in the shuffle.

That is a drag since I loved to stack my bracelets.

He also helped me with the inscrpition of the bracelet. You have the

wording right there.

Good luck

I also have the medic alert subscription even though I didn't get my

bracelet through them.

Just as an FYI for those considering not getting one from medicalert

directly.

I would just caution you to not make it look too much like jewelry--you don't

want the paramedics to miss the fact that it's a medic alert! I got mine from

Medic Alert (www.medicalert.org/)

Kay,

Hi...the bracelet that I am getting has the medic alert symbol right on it....that part of the bracelet costs $10, she has it inscribed for you. The other part is various prices...it depends on what kind of beads that you want. They are really beautiful. The total of my bracelet is $40. I picked out some crystal beads that will go with everything. I like the part that she will repair it and resize it at any time for free.

I used the Medic alert website to get my first bracelet and then I

had one custom made for me by my jeweler. She odered the plate

through the big catalog she has of medical plates, then she engraved

all the info that was on the back of my Medic Alert bracelet onto it.

This way I have a back up one in case I want to go swimming or go

hiking or something where I don't have to worry about losing/damaging

my custom one.

For 35 bucks you get a year subscription to Medic alert and a FREE id

bracelet for starters. Good deal!
