Guest guest
Okay, I have to put my two cents in too! I know what you mean about clothes that would normally go on a size 4 person that they try to make for larger people, for example... I ran across one of thos halter top thingies with a tie around the neck that are backless in my size... Oh yes, it looks great on the rack, and I can only hope I could wear one of these some day, but REALLY, Larger people just should NOT be wearing these things! Kim B. Guest guest
I am going to chime in on this thread about Lane . They have gone so trendy - making clothes that you see the high school kids wear - lots of clingy material and bright neon colors. What a joke for someone like me who wants to look as presentable as possible and doesn't want to be stuffed into something. And tons of sleeveless clothes. Where are the clothes to wear to work???? If I had money I would open up a clothing store for large men and women. Clothes that are realistic - not trendy. That fit in the upper arms without tons of extra cloth below. Long, pretty shirts to wear over slacks. Elegant affordable clothes. I would consult with men and women to find out what they need and want. Comfy clothes to exercise in and not look ridiculous. OK - enough from me! __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Yeah, me too! I mean, I don't mind the " trendy " stuff every now and then, but please....they have started to put close out there are just the larger version of stuff that a size 4 would wear. I'm sorry, but just because it comes in my size doesn't mean I should wear it. It's kind of like the spandex thing....hello....just because it stretches to fit doesn't mean that it truly fits (we all know what I'm talking about). And speaking of Lane .....I didn't actually see the original post about it so forgive me if I'm repeating something BUT....why is it that their models (especially in their catalogs) are so thin??? I want to see what their crap is going to look like on a body like mine....not some size 6! Okay okay....I'm done venting (for now) > Re: Clothing Commiseration > > I'll be your first and best customer! Angel > > --- " Betsy M. Guest guest
I'm so glad that you can understand what I'm saying. It's also like those tank top thingies with the so called build in bra??? Please exactly what does that little extra bit of material support?? I really wish I knew who thought up such nonsense! hahahaha > Re: Clothing Commiseration > > Okay, I have to put my two cents in too! Guest guest
I used to shop in a large women's clothing store. All the clothes were used but in excellent shape. The woman who ran the store really put effort into what she was doing. She took consignments, every rack was organized, summer clothes, and pants, jeans, suits and dresses were all marked and labeled properly. She could spot a classic suit a mile away. She pressed all the clothes that came in and treated us with respect and dignity. I wish I lived in a bigger city I think I would start a store like that. Guest guest
Betsy, If you ever open up shop, let me know! Wow, half the stuff in Lane that they consider trendy, I consider down right ugly! The other half may look great on those size 8 models in the window, but they don't look as nice when I'm trying to wear them on my size 26/28 body! It definitely gets kind of depressing when you want to look nice, but the majority of outfits just seem to accentuate the negative! One thing I will enjoy after BPD/DS, is not having to worry so much about covering making sure my arms are covered or the shirt doesn't come up and show my stomach when I stretch, etc. It's by no means the reason I'm having this surgery, but I have to say it's a definite side benefit! Guest guest
Oh yes, that brings up another issue (I could go on and on about this it seems). Doesn't it seem that people that make clothes for larger women assume that they like to wear ugly stuff??? Please, I'm 24 years old....I have no desire to wear stuff that even my grandmother wouldn't wear! Do I seem bitter?!?!? hahaha Hey, I'm a beautiful person....just because I'm fat doesn't mean I'm ugly so I refuse to wear ugly clothes and nobody else should be subjected to it either in my opinion! > Re: Clothing Commiseration > > Betsy, > > If you ever open up shop, let me know! Guest guest
Hi all beautiful large ladies! I've been reading everyone's comments on large size clothing with delight. I just don't get it. It's almost like they're designing ugly things for large women on purpose: they're fat chicks anyway, what does it matter? I really do think it's an issue of prejudice. I get almost all of my clothing from Making it Big (they have a website, I can't remember it right now) and find they're about the only company that makes quality, wearable, durable clothing. I don't want to be a commercial for them, but even if it's a tad bit pricey, it does last. I get nothing but compliments on my clothes, and I am big: bmi 66. Forgive me my " activist " tendencies, but it's like the shoe-size issue. Go to buy men's shoes with a guy, and they regularly have 4 widths available. Try to find W or WW shoes in a regular store for women: forget it! When we need to have our clothing altered because they think the bigger you are around the taller you are (what's up with THAT?!), WE pay for it: guys get their tailoring either free or at least in-store for relatively cheap. What is it with the arm-holes??? I am a LARGE lady, and have big upper arms, but still they (even Making it Big) make arm holes that if you raise your arms people can see your bra and the entire upper half of your naked side! With a lot of these catalogues it's like a game of " let's pretend " with super-thin models either wearing " grandma " clothes or clothing no self-respecting large person would want to be seen in because it would show them to great disadvantage in the world. We are sophisticated, intelligent women and want to look that way! Not like somebody's grandma (no offense to grandmothers anywhere!) or a teeny-bopper. Do we all have " we love polyester " stamped on our foreheads? It will truly be a joy to be able to buy nice clothes, although, admittedly, that's pretty far down the line on the benefits of this surgery -- being healthy being the most important. Clothing is just another thing that is so very difficult for large people, and that just wears us down more. Enough of my tirade! Love and peace to all, Robyn Re: Clothing Commiseration > > > > Betsy, > > > > If you ever open up shop, let me know! Guest guest
Dear Robyn: AMEN! I have always hated the clothes we are forced to buy, I was not ever any good at sewing so I had to buy, fortunately for me I could wear jeans to work even if I had to buy them at a big and tall men's store but now I still have a problem I have had since I was 16, women are not allowed to be tall unless they are willing to spend twice as much money on the for tall clothes! And speaking of tall what moron decided that 5'10" was tall and paints with a 34-36 inch inseam are only for jeans unless of course you go back to the specialty stores and the double prices. I just can't win! I look at great skirts, soft slender with great colors and soft pretty designs and then I wake up as I try them on and they reach only to the bottom of my calves and really look silly. You know those great Capri pants that are supposed to be at calve length? Well, I now have no problem finding sizes I am wearing somewhere between a 10 and 14 depending on what bran but they only reach my knees! Sheesh! And in the same vein tops are now at least long enough as I no longer have to worry about covering my belly and butt but I still wear 3/4 length sleeves or long sleeves, now some of the 3/4 sleeves are fine but long sleeves are funny if I hold my arms out they scoot up to mid forearm. Okay enough venting I just wish that the companies making these clothes would get it through their heads that heavy woman do not want to look like a 90 year old sack or that they are wearing the special of the day from the tent maker and you are so right! What is with those armholes for goddess sake they reach all the way down to your waist! And that some of us are actually and really tall 6' and over, oh in case anyone is looking for jeans and they are tall I actually found Wrangler jeans in cool colors, (sage green, light brick red, light gray and 3 different shades of blues and also black) for $18 and change they carry assorted lengths but their talls fit me great and actually reach my ankles, I would prefer if then were a little closer cut but they only have the relaxed fit so I am going to try the size 12 next time and see if I can snap them, I know the rest of them will fit as I have plenty of room in the 14, more than I care for but the waist in the 12 may be a wee bit snug! Okay sorry this has run on and on so I will close thanks for listening to my griping. Huggles, Tiger
