I also had mixed signals from people who I told about surgery. It took me 2

years to figure out I wanted it myself, so I kind of expected the mixed

reaction. My friend had DS open with Dr. Rabkin in Oct 99 and has lost over

200 lbs, while her sister had Lap with Dr. Nguyen(SP?) and developed a small

leak, that turned pretty nasty. She went through a very difficult time and

almost died. Originally I was to have surgery around the same time, but after

the complications I started doing some serious research, so I was one of

those apprehensive people myself. I thought I would just jump back on weight

watchers and do it myself (Yeah Right!) After 2 years and 60 more lbs of fat

I decided it was right for me. I wish you the best of luck... and believe me,

after you have lost some weight, I'm sure your MO friend will follow suit, I

know it worked for me... There was no way my best friend was going to be

skinny without me!
