Guest guest
It seems to me I read somewhere that sarcoid is more common in healthcare workers. I also work in healthcare, first in hospital ed and admissions and now in surgeons office. Was diagsnosed when I worked in the hospital... Bonnie B Hi Bonnie, I'm not sure if you saw my post yesterday or not, but I had commented on how many nurses we have in the group. I -- am-was- hope-to-be-again -- the Senior Assistant at Lockheed Corp. (defense group) to the Director of Signal Processor and Design Center. Obviously not a nurse, but running a 200+ employee organization ... lots and lots of fast-paced, always multi-tasking, stressful days and long,-usually-working from home at nite kind of jobs. I do know that Sarcoid is very common in Scandanavian countries, predominantly Sweden, of which I am half, and in Northern Europe, of which I am the other half. I've read it is common in Aftrican Americans (of which we have many members in this group alone) and Firefighters (of which since I live across the street from a NY firefighter who has recently developed nodules in his lungs, and of which we have heard in the news, many are developing Sarcoid). Okay, so given the fact that many firefighters (even prior to 9/11) have a high % of victims, we can say that sarcoid is environmental or were exposed to some type of foreign toxic-to-them agent. Then, we have certain ethnic backgrounds such as Scandanavians and Blacks and Northern Europeans whom have a high % of victims, therefore, we can say that sarcoid is genetic. Then, given there is the large group of New Yorker's, NY firemen, or those who were visiting New York for one reason or another on 9/11, who were in the area of the WTC tragedy, whom have a high % of victims; therefore, we can again say sarcoid is environmental or toxic-to-a select group due to a certain foreign agent(s). Within this group, I would like to know how many of those sarcoidians were black or caucasian with Scandanavian or northern European backgrounds. So, what do we know about the victims of sarcoid? That they are probably black; or they are caucasian (but with a Scandanvian or Northern European background), they are firemen; or they are firemen who are either black or firemen who are caucasian with a Scandanavian or European background; or they firemen; or they are anyone who was in the area of the WTC on 9/11 or shortly thereafater; we can now add to the list "some in the medical profession, mostly those on the nursing staff. Now, to the group above, let's add some stress, and we have "active, most-likely systemic sarcoidosis" since most of the group above is most likely, for one reason or another, often highly-stressed ... whether it is from professional and/or personal issues; I think we can add those with "high blood pressure" mixed into the "stressed" group as people with high blood pressure usually are stressed. (I hope I didn't lose anybody!...sorry if I did.) In light of the above, I am actually surprised more Americans do not have a form Sarcoidosis as there is a high number of citizens who fall into the groups above. There is obviously one missing piece to the puzzle which makes only some of us within the groups above fall prey to this disease ... and there is the small % of victims who don't fit any of the groups above ... ??????. Okay, that is all I had to add to Bonnie's e-mail. Love, hugs, and prayers to all, Joan
